Well I was all ready for two days of diving aboard the Enterprise out of Waukegan with Capt. Dale Bennet,BUT NOOOOOOO!
The seas are running at close to eight feet and there is a small craft advisory is in effect till tonight (Saturday). My buddy Mverick came to my home in Springfield from St. Louis last night, but we decided to call Dale before heading up north. Good thing. We got him shortly after he got off the plane from DEMA in Las Vegas, and he cancelled because of the weather. Nitroxbabe was also coming along, so she's not a happy camper either.
To salvage the weekend Mverick and I are heading up to Haigh (he's never been).
Thanks for letting me p*** and moan. At least I'll get some practice in with my new LP 121's.

Yep, it just bites, doesn't it?

Well, I talked to Dale for a bit last night - he said that they'll still be hoping to get out a few times before they pull the boat out of the water.

I know that doesn't help YOU much, Ken, but you never know... I'll keep an eyeball on the marine forecast and keep you posted.

As for myself, when faced with the option of yet another murky-ass dive at Pearl Lake or staying home and catching up on The Sopranos.... I'm opting to stay home.

Waaah.

And I guess I'll have to meet Mverick another time - Hey! maybe I'll have a Midwest Dive T-shirt myself by then! You never know - I did enter this month's contest...

When does Dale pull he boat out?

To finish my sad story: we got up to Haigh this morning, I started setting up my gear and surprise! My new tanks came with DIN valves with the inserts to convert them to yolks. My Mares reg has a yolk too small to fit over the valves, but every other yolk works. Rick lent me a reg and is going to trade me a couple of regular K valves for those that came with the tanks.
I got that reg set up with my computer/SPG and inflator hose and found out that the j---off at the LDS had only filled the tanks to 1700 PSI. Rick came through again with an LP121 cave filled to 3100. I was just happy have this all happen at Haigh and not in the middle of lake Michigan.
Aside from all that, we had a good time at Haigh. I hope everyone had a better weekend. I'm taking up knitting.

I would have traded you one of the valves...

I highly Recomend staying at the Ken Abode.. Great dinners, Comfy Beds, and Buddies that lick ya...

Haigh was nice. But, it reminded me of one thing. It's still a Quarry.... LOL... Saw some different Fish life... And looks really great for training... My normal buddy wants to go check it out in Nov... But, Once you've been to a quarry the only reason I go is for training.. Or trying new gear... Or to check it out for training...

Well, done that... It's a great training facility...

Couple things I didn't like.... Picnic tables instead of Tank racks for gearing up.. Gearing up in the open kinda stinks... I can imagine the Sun Beating down on you in the summer... No guide line to the sunken "Treasures". I like guide lines.. If I'm exploreing, I'm not looking for a bus or a boat that everyone else has been through... Give me a trail..

Things I did like... Easy entry for students... Walk in to get your weighting right... Big platforms.... Shallow end is great for students... Can't get too deep if there isn't a place to go deep... Some big fish Cruising... Really Nice look to it... Plus, in a town... Instead of 20 miles out... And everybody was really nice....

Golly, thanks Rick. You have no idea how much that means to me.

So - guess what, guys. The lake is laying down beautifully right now - 1-3's and it's supposed to stay that way for a few days.

It's just not fair.

But I did get out diving on Sunday - my buddy who owns the dive shop bought a new boat (it should be up & running for charters next season!). We took it out on Lake Geneva, which I've never dove before.

It was actually lots of fun! Vis was 20-30, sunny day... Lots of HUGE fish... I didn't find any old bottles (which was what we were hunting), but I found a few old beer cans, lots o' crawdads to scare my dive buddy with, and a rusted old hibachi which will now grace my yard. :)

Dan's new boat just KICKS. It's really, really fast. I'm hoping we get to do this next weekend too!

(happy weather dance - happy weather dance...)

You're right, he probably can't.
No wonder my dogs are looking abandoned.
