Well, I really would like to come in here and tell everyone that Cozumel was great, diving was incredible with 200 foot vis, but I would be lying if I did.
Truth be told, I did have a good time, and the aquatic life is as good as ever, but Hurricane Emily did a job on the reefs down there. The reefs are still there, but most are all covered in sand still. The deeper dives was pretty bad, almost like diving in a snow storm with all the sand blowing around. On one dive in particular, vis was down to about 5 foot. Quarry skills came in handy there. Shallow dives was still great, vis was still probably around 50-70 foot. In one day alone, I found 7 Splendid Toad Fish, I was kind of proud of that.
I have a few pictures to show off, but I wont be able to download those until probably tomorrow, because my pizza should be here any minute now.

You ordered pizza for yourself, too? Man, you have some pizza bills coming your way. Just wait til you read some of the activity on the board in your absence. :)
Looking forward to seeing the pics and hearing some of the lies, um, stories.

I was in Coz 2 weeks after Emily and would have thought that the sand would have been cleared off the reefs by now. The reefs seemed in relatively good shape except for Santa Rosa which took a major hit to the shallower sections. I understand that the east side of the island has reopened and that Coconuts is back. Can you confirm?

We tried going to Coconuts on Monday, and was turned away by the Mexican police, saying the road was not open. I have read the reports on the other board saying it was open, but as of Monday, we could not get there.
Mescalitos is open, and I did have a few margaritas there. I highly recommend that as a stop while you are there.

Hey Bob, could you make sure all that stuff is straightened out by the time I get there in December? As you can tell from my avatar, I'm ready.
Thanks
