Also, wondering what kind of light you use.

I've got the old TDS aluminum scout copies. Like them a lot for backups. And, dive with 2 all the time. Suprisingly, I use them a lot. Even when I don't bring the HID. Easy to grab one to check stuff out with...

Hid's I have the Dive Rite 10w hid with wreck1 can. Actually, I have 2 of them off one can.

Have a Halcyon 10w with a old stealth can. Very compact....

Just got the 24w Salvo running off a Diverite Wreck1 can. Haven't tried it yet though.

Really liked the Halcyon it's small and easy to use. The Dive rite's I had first and they were great for wrecks too... I think they are brighter then the Halcyon 10w. It alway's seemed that way. Now they're set up to mount on a Video cam.

I'm imagining the Salvo is going to be like carrying the sun... LOL Which is what I thought when I carried the dive rite to start with... LOL

I guess I'm the only one using lights......:2773:

I recently got a UK Light Cannon, their handheld HID that runs on 8 C cells. Big step up for me.

Ok, I'll contribute.

I got the new Sea Elite 10W HID (actually a Salvo), a UK C8 eLed, and four or five small lights.

Sartek 10wt HID with 4.5AH NiMH battery. Sturdy, inexpensive (well, for a HID, anyway), small, enough light and time for most situations.
Salvo 24wt HID with 9.0AH NiMH battery. Brand new, it's brighter than hell in the bathtub, haven't tried it in the water. I'm planning on using it for some deep open water search work.
OxyCheq Little Johnsons (Scout clones). SL4 bulbs driven by 3 "C" cells. Hard to get lined up correctly and prone to flooding/turning on. These are my backup lights on deep dives.
Underwater Kinetics SL4. Overdriven bulbs but they won't flood at recreational depths. These are my backup lights on shallow dives.

I've also got a handful of smaller marker lights and strobes and a couple of UK 8 cell monsters that my wife would rather tote than a can light.

I'm definitely on the lookout for a reliable backup light - one that won't flood, won't turn on/off with pressure changes, isn't overdriven, can handle 300 foot+ depths and will mount like a Scount clone on my webbing.

Don't know why everybody wants delrin.... These are Aluminum...How is the electrical connection made between the base of the batteries and the bulb? The scout clones all have a copper strip that seems to be the root of much of the trouble: get that strip just a little bit out of position and the line between on and off moves dramatically. This seems to be what leads to the flooding and pressure related switching problems - at any rate it's frustrating as heck.

3 c batteries. Bottom battery connects to the body via spring. Top of 3 batteries connects to the back of the light bulb. Screw down cap and the reflector itself touches the aluminum body completing the circuit. No strip needed...

By the way, if you're by Waukegan on Sat you can check them out when we get of the boat.... Or, if you dive the Enterprise. I think Dale has one on his duals rig also...

I think Dale has one on his duals rig also...See, this is how it starts: in order to successfully complete an IDC, I give up a few days of fun dives to spend them practicing in the pool and quarry. Next thing you know, I'm going to be an instructor and never get to dive for fun again. I talked with a guy a couple days ago that was proud of the fact that he'd been "diving his brains out" all summer - 140 dives this YTD. Every stinking one of them in a pool or quarry. Time to slip a round in the pipe. :(

I wouldn't let instructing cause a problem with my diving.... Make the shop have enough instructors so it doesn't interfere.. I teach things... And I still dive when I want... Or when Work allows.... That's what kills me... One weekend off a month.... But, It's 5 day's off...

If you want to check one out. Let me know....

I use several different back-up lights. I have a couple of aluminum Scout clones and have been very pleased with them. I have had Scouts and they do not seem to hold up as well as others. I also like Pelican lights. They are very rugged and do not cost anywhere near as much as some of the others. They are making the "Recoil" now that has an LED mounted to shine "backwards" into a reflector. It produces a very bright, tight beam, uses very little battery power and the LED will not burn out. The only problem with Pelican lights is that you need to push out the pin and remove the spring clip. The lanyard attachment point is also off-center.

My primary light is a Dive Rite Wreck light with a 10 watt head.

i use the 10w HID OMS light. i think it's great, although i am curious about getting more wattage.

for a backup light, i use a UK c4 with nimh batteries. i just have one (doing it easy), but i've been thinking about buying a pair of LED lights. the only problem is that very few people sell them and i'd like to test them out before i buy 'em. i might have to do a dive on the enterprise to check out these fabled LED lights.
