Hey guys and gals,
I'm from Missouri and I'm looking for any fellow freedivers in the area. Let me know if you want to do some diving. Or if your into scuba but are curious and would like to try freediving that'll work too. Send me an email or pm or reply here if you want to give it a shot.
Safe diving and God bless,
Stitch

I'll be the first to admit, I'm not a free diver. I've done my fair share of snorkeling and "breath hold dives" to see things, but I don't really consider that to be freediving.
But I'm curious, if you freedive locally, how do the thermoclines affect you? When I scuba dive locally I move through the thermoclines slowly, giving myself (and my body) time to adjust to the new conditions. The concept of starting out in 80 deg water and moving down into the 40's and then back up quickly seems foreign.
How do you deal with those temperature changes?

James,
I've heard freedivers say that if you hold your breath for a second and dip your head below water then you're freediving. I tend to agree. So hey, you're a freediver at times!
As for the thermoclines......I don't know. I've only dove in cold water so far. So I can't detect much difference between surface temp and temp at depth. I use an apnea suit (6/5mm) so the cold is not a problem, even in ice, up to an hour or more in the water. On a sunny windless day , it's good for several hours.......as long as your hands and feet don't get to cold.
I'll try to remember to update this thread this summer and give some info on how the thermoclines affect my dives.
Later,
Stitch

I see this is an old thread, but we are in the St.Louis area, and love snorkeling/freediving and would be interested in any good dive locations you might know of.
Thanks,
Steve

Hey I am officialy a free diver then. I would love to free dive sometime, I guess I did a little of it in FL a few weeks ago. Snokling/freediving. Went down 25 feet or so. I guess free divers go much deeper

I free dive when I can, but most of the time, I paydive.

Hey There,
New to the forums, but am interested in learning freediving and figured on starting in the NW Ohio quarrys (am from SE Mich) - any freedivers out there going to Whitestar or Portage??? Also, what's the best way to get started and possibly train during the winter to be ready to try it in the spring?
