Just thought I'd pass this along.
I recently signed up for two more DAN Instructor courses. With these courses I would be able to teach both the DEMP and DES courses.
Then I read some new info about DES and it totally confused me. It said, to paraphrase, that to be a DES instructor I'd have to have taugt a number of the 4 courses I have/am getting and a number of an additional course.
Well the phone call cleared it up for me. DES is not a course, but rather a recognition level.
As I understand it, if I teach a DEMP course with AO2, any student in that course can get a DES card, even if I am not a "DES" instructor.
Confused? So was I! To get the DES instructor rating I have to have taught 10 students in 4 DAN specialties (including O2 and AO2), + 10 in BLSPro. But a DES student needs only 4 specialties (O2, A02, +2 Others).
So, if I teach a student O2, AO2, Hazards Marine Life & AED...they can get the DES Provider recognition, even if I don't have the DES Instructor Recognition. (DES also requires CPR/FA and Rescue).
So to sum it up:
After DEMA I will be able to teach O2,A02, HMLI, and AED (DAN, I can already teach PADI AED). I can teach that in one day as a DEMP course, but any student who takes that and has CPR/FA and Rescue can also become a DAN DES....
Clear as mud isn't it?
James
