Hey all, just wanted to ask opinions on having/getting dive insurance for mostly local diving. What do you have and personal experience with different plans/companies? I'm pretty new to looking into this, so I'm not sure what to look for, but it seems DAN is the standard.

I'm obviously a DAN fan. I carry the Master Plan wich is the middle of the three.

Another vote for DAN. I have been a member since I got certified. Currently carry the plan that covers dives beyond recreational depths.

Not only a very good insurance plan, but also contributing to a great organization that does a great deal for us in terms of research and education!

DAN

Preferred for the parents, Master for the kids.

There is a comparison of the DAN policies here:

Both Preferred and Master will cover beyond rec.

Just remember, as with any of the dive insurance policies that they are secondary insurance. They pick up where your regular medical leaves off.

I guess it looks like a no-brainer...DAN definitely looks like the place to go.

Thanks for all the input and we will definitely be looking into this. I never realized how reasonably priced this is.

Thanks James for the comparison; hopefully this thread will help others think more about getting the covereage needed. This is not something I have seen discussed or encouraged much (besides ads in numerous magazines which I tend to ignore  ).

Most shops make a speech about it during the Open Water classroom portion, and during all DAN classes such as Oxygen Provider.

I've got the DAN master plan. Never used it, hope I never do.

I did make a dive during which my buddy got bent (similar profiles including SS, I was fine, he was bent); he rode the chamber; DAN paid the bills.

DAN preferred plan for my husband and I. As they say, don't dive naked! :D
