The wife and I havn't been able to take a real vacation in almost two years, but the time has finally come: Coz in December.
This will be our third time. Hotel is the Playa Azul which is situated between the airport and San Miguel. It's not a divers' hotel but has a nice beach, as in "You're out diving all day! I want a nice @^&*#%@ beach!"

I'll be diving with Living Underwater, one of the few ops that offers LP steel 121's. It's a small operation with one fast boat taking six divers. Costs a little more than most, but I've had enough of cattle boats and being forced to come up with half a tank.

Awesome! On our 2nd trip to Cozumel we drove over to Playa Azul and walked around, looks like a great place to stay. Do you have to drive into town to catch the dive boat? Hope you'll post a trip report when you get back.

Good for you, Ken. It's been a couple of years since I've been there myself; maybe I'll make it back someday.

Ken't already packed the spray can of pink paint...

Good for you Ken. Looking at the prices on what we are about to embark on, I may not get a dive vacation for quite a while :(.

I just returned on Tuesday from 1 1/2 weeks at Coz. It was my 5th trip there and I still love it. Playa Azul is about as far north of town on the main road as you can go (although the road now extends as a gravel road).

The hurricane damage was evident on the south and east sides of the island. In fact, you can't drive on the east side as the road is gone (as is Coconuts). Didn't see too much damage to the reefs with the exception of Santa Rosa Wall that looked to sustain significant damage. Lots of sand on the coral but hope that the current will move that in time. Vis was down a bit (only about 80') which is still a far cry better than these muddy holes that we've been diving in the Midwest.

Enjoy yourself. I'd love to go back again.

I have to catch the boat at the marina or the Villa Blanca (where we stayed last time...how ironic). My wife has also seen the Playa Azul, which explains a lot.

Sorry to hear about Coconuts. I was there last year, and that was a pretty cool place to hang out at when the diving was done. What about Mescolitos? Is that still there?

I will be in Coz next month. I'll try to make sure Coz is ready for you Ken.

I'm sorry about Coconuts too! I had left a little something there in Nov. 2003.

They were hanging up in the thatched roof over the bar area.

;)

......just let it go.............

Don't worry about Coconuts...

Let's face it the east side, or "wild side" doesn't take long to put back together. There are no utilities over ther (IIRC the Coconuts "facilities" were as standard commode mounted over a hole in the ground. As opposed to a typical latrine this one made you think you could actually flush.

I saw the pictures. Seems the only thing left was the concrete (which ain't much for those who haven't had the pleasure). But I'm willing to bet that by the time I get back I won't be able to tell the difference.
