There are 2 Treasure Hunts coming up. My LDS, along with 2 others is sponsoring one next Saturday in Rolla. Proceeds go to the Boys and Girls club. For more information look here:
http://www.midwestscuba.net/events_trhunt05.asp
Other dive shops are sponsoring one in Mermet in August. Proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity. No news yet on the appropriate web sites.
These are both great causes and both are great ways for new divers to find buddies or weathered divers to add some fun into their local dives!
I'll be at Rolla on Saturday as a safety diver and look forward to meeting some of our members along the way! In fact, I'll steal TS's idea and award an MWD t-shirt to the first member who mentions this post to me. (Bob, you don't count :D since your working it and have 2 shirts already!)
TS, when The Dive Shop gets their event up on their web page, please post it for us.
James
P.S. Want to win the shirt? Some hints to pick me out:
1. I dive a hog rig.
2. I'll be wearing a Dee-Rag (http://www.dee-rags.com/)
3. I'll be hanging out on the surface to help you out if you have problems.
4. If I don't get spotted before the awards are handed out, I'll make sure to have my MWD t-shirt on for that.

James,
Glad to hear you are going to be a safety diver. I am in charge of getting all of them together. Do you want to bob around out there for all 6 hours, or do you want some time on land as well? I have to put the schedule together as soon as I get back from OW class. Speaking of that, I need to hit the road and get down there.

Basicly you dive for tokens. (Pieces of pvc with numbers on it.) The lower numbers get to draw first for prizes.
Last year there were 2 gold tokens which were for direct prizes (one was an SB reg and the other a light cannon???? IIRC).
Cortez and Bob will probably know more about the prizes available this year.

At Mermet you also dive for tokens, but then you use the tokens as currency in an auction for the prizes. You may also bid with real money in addition to the value of your tokens, so if you REALLY want one of the prizes you CAN get it--and benefit Habitat for Humanity at the same time.
This year's prizes have not yet been announced, but last year's included a couple regulators, a few pair of Rondine fins, a couple gear bags, a computer, and I believe a BC as well.
