View Full Version : OMS Ultimate Dry Suit Glove

These are not your usual drysuit golves, in that they do not mate with the drysuit itself. The are 5mm gauntlet style with a neoprene cuff inside the gauntlet that starts at the bottom of your palm and slips over your drysuit's wrist seals. The gauntlet zips closed over that.
This interior seal makes them tricky to put on, since it tends to fold inward toward the palm rather than stay over the drysuit seal unless you hold it, basicially making it a 3-handed job. OMS suggests putting a little warm water in before putting them on, but I found it much easier to lube up with suit snot (hair conditioner & water).
That said, these gloves are really warm. Water exchange is minimal as long as the cuff is in position. The Kelvar palm survived nicely (I shread a pair a year on wrecks), and seems thicker/tougher than what I am used to. Once you get the hang of donning them correctly, you're home free.

Great Ken,

Now could you go out and get a pair of smurf gloves with the SI Tech ring system and give us a comparitive review? ;)

VuDu..you may have noticed that this thread is over a year old, so I'll update it:
I still like the gloves. Wreck diving has put a few punctures in them and taken a lot of the Kevlar off, but Aquaseal has take care of any leaks. Even with some initially cold water in them, they warm up and do the job. The can be a bit of a pain to get on, so I talc them or lube with suit snot: half and half hair conditioner and water.

Someone told me about a similar sounding glove. Deep See Dry Comfort. They are 4mm. But, I haven't found them anywhere but the Deep See web site. Anyone know if they are similar?

I haven't used the "Dry Comfort", but I've bought other models of the Deep See brand from Leisure Pro. The 5mm TI is a good glove at a good price. I'm really hard on gloves and go thru a pair every year. The LP price tag helps out.

Shame on you. At least buy from an online source run by divers. ;)

Just for a brief moment, I thought I was on the OTHER board and you were going to tell me to buy my junk at Scubatoys. (wish I hadn't said that)

I ain't got no job! I got to save every dime I can. Actually I've had better luck with Divers' Supply than anywhere else.

ROFL! Silly cave diver. If I were to tell you where to buy your stuff, surely I would have suggested The Dive Shop of St. Louis! But this isn't the OTHER board and I don't tell people where to buy their stuff. I even used the smilin' winky emoticon when I suggested where not to buy your stuff--was only ribbin' ya.

Anyway, one of my OTHER cave diving buddies has a pair of those OMS gauntlet gloves and loves them, too.

I was a committed ZIP dry glove user until I got a chance to buy (at The Dive Shop) a pair of the Akona 5 mm nylon II neoprene gloves-AKNG154. Now I go both ways. If the weather is warm and the shallow water is mild, I prefer the Akonas for the greater dexterity. If the weather is cold and the shallow water is cold, I prefer the dry gloves so I can START the dive with warm hands.

How 'bout that?--I made amends and got back on topic all at once!

The more I hear about drysuit gloves, any kind, the more I feel I am sticking with my 5mm wet gloves. I have learned to put them on without much trouble, and my hands haven't gotten cold enough for me to worry about, even in 36 degree water. Other parts of me get cold sooner. And it is one less place to worry about flooding.

It all started when (last Friday) I bought a slightly used O'neill 7000X w/ boots from a guy who installed pools and gained too much weight. It looks new, no wear or tear...water here is 46F year round at depth and I'm tired of being cold...so now I'm ready for the winter!!! Being a county cop means I'm on a limited budget, being married to a German means a fixed income, she fixes it...but for 2006 I've managed to replace all my gear with newer stuff...I alos made my first batch of home brew my birthday present from my wife...life is good...

Home Brew! Woo Hoo Vu Du Lou!!!

We used to brew a lot, when we started refinishing our basement we packed away all our brew stuff. I think its time to get it back out.

What kinds do you brew? I enjoy porters and they used to be hard to find so I'd make my own. Hubby liked IPA's and we both agreed on oatmeal stout.

What about you?

...Having done multiple tours in southern Germany while in the Army, I developed a taste for hefe Weizen beer...when I first met my wife I noticed she had my favorite (Erdinger hefe Weizen) on hand, it was love at first sight! She gave me the "Mr. Beer" kit for my birthday and it has easy to follow instructions and so far so good...

...but what does this have to do with dry suit gloves?

If you had been referring to moonshine instead of beer, it would have been the perfect way to warm up those hands after a day of cold winter dives!

Moonshine is the traditional post-dive drink around the campfire for our New Years' Eve midnight cave dive in Luraville. So far, SLIM can be counted on to provide the goods.

Outstanding...we don't have (to my knowledge) access to 'shine' here, however, the official drink of the "Round Table Dive Team" is Barenjager, a German honey liquer (mead?)...the last time I had any shine was a few years ago in Germany when my wife's uncle poured some and asked me if I knew what it was...I answered that it was moonshine, then asked him where he got it from...he answered, "Your father"...

That sounds like enough fun to entice a non-cave diver to give it a try. Something I have always want to do is have a date for New Years Eve, even if it is with my husband.

I just gave myself a chuckle- this thread will turn into the drygloves vs wetgloves thread like the MOFO vs NO-MOFO thread over there...

I like my DC drygloves- I have the suit rings and no latex seal on the inside. I have a pair of backup rings with gloves on them, and a set of backup backup rings that have wristseals in case I wanted to dive gloveless or even wet handed.

DDBob's a little quiet right now.

But he uses the DUI Zip Gloves with his dry suit.
When we go out for after-dive dinner he drinks water (even when the shop is buying!)
If he talks to himself, he does that quietly, too.
