My son is in his second year as a Scuba ranger, and I just found out Becky will be teaching or at least help out teaching his class this summer. So, Becky, I expect a full report on Drew. I want to know what you think about getting him JOW certified. I'm hoping to convince Pam that Scuba Friends needs to go to Bonaire next year, and figured that would be a great place to take him once he got his JOW. Plus, if I can just convince Pam to do the same with Nathan, they could be dive buddies for life...ah, to have started when I was only 9 years old...

LOL - No Problem. I will work on the Bonaire idea also - sounds great.

I know what you mean about starting at 9 - I am married to a diver and waited 25 yrs before I took the plunge - stupid, stupid!!!

I would look into it - I believe without rereading the standards that an OW diver can become a Ranger Instr, Stress & Rescue might be required A requirement that I can remember is you have to have a background check. I know you need to be a Dive Con to lead an OW trip (they still can only go to 12 ft).

It is a great program. We do a monthly activity, Gear Ranger, Buddy Ranger, Signing Ranger, Civic Ranger, Fish ID Ranger etc. Of course the kids love the diving and they get to use their gear once a month - good practice on assembly and disassembly.

Scuba Rangers is amazing, and the people who teach it are awesome. You would not believe how eager kids are to learn this stuff if they want to. I couldn't believe how easy mask clearing was for them. When my son took it, it was the first class for our instructor to teach. Just my son & her son. Talk about amazing progress. I think if they were able to understand the physics of diving, they would be better than half of the people in my OW class.
