I'm thinking od getting a 'puter and I found a great price on this Atmos 2 wrist for $249.

Can anyone tell me if it's a good piece of gear. Is it worth it?

Thanks

The general consensus is that the better computers are the SUUNTO, the ScubaPro Uwatec, or the DiveRite. Between these 3 brands, there are numerous models in all price ranges, from very simple recreational models to sophisticated mixed gas technical models.

If bargain pricing is your main goal (referencing the $249 Atmos), I would suggest the SUUNTO Mosquito or Gekko, which you can find at many local dive shops.

Depends upon if you want a conservative DC. If you do then go with Suunto. Not saying that they are bad, just conservative. The Aeris algorythm(sp) is more like the RDP that we all use, or did use.

FYI, you might want to hold off for the new version of the Atmos 2, the XR-2. I think they are doing away with the Atmos 2 but I am not totally positive on that. This may be the reason for the low price. Download the 2005 catalog for Aeris and they give you a comparison chart and info on the new comps.

I dive a Aeris Atmos 1 and I do like it for what it is.

I'd say too conservative. I was on a boat with a woman in PR who was going into deco just about every dive. She was diving nitrox while the rest of us were staying out of deco on air...

Didn't know they were that conservative but I have heard of several MAJOR dive shops not carry them because of this issue. The bad part is that their computers are made for other comanies as well. I do know that Aeris and Oceanic are of several that aren't like Suunto.

I have a Uwatec Aladin Prime that is much more conservative than my Oceanic. I use them both at the sametime, one backs up the other, and I have never been in Deco with either one but I get real close with my Aladin.

She MUST have had it set to a more conservative factor to get that kind of results. It is adjustable to several levels of conservatism. I have also seen people mistakenly set the profile for an altitude dive, or not put in the Nitrox mix correctly.

The SUUNTOS are indeed more conservative than many others. On a repetitive deep dive with a buddy who is using the Uwatec, I will run out of NDL time while he still has about 4 minutes left. I do have it set on the least conservative profile, but I also appreciate a little more conservatism in my diving.

She said it was new, and I was under the impression she was pretty much diving it in the default config. But one never knows, with a new computer no telling what she accidently set on it.

Not that I know anything .....Does the computer have a reset feature that allows you to go back to the company settings without looking for all of the nooks and crannies someone may have changed?

Remove, wait and replace. Most computers are now set so you have a few seconds to replace the battery without loosing your data.
