Who's been to Sanilac Shores?

Our club is scheduled to dive Lake Huron (Sanilac) over Labor Day. It will be the first time I am in a Great Lake other than Lake Michigan. Has anyone else been to this area?

I dove there mid last year w/ Huron Explorations (the other dive charter). Had a great time. The wrecks are in good shape. Vis is generaly good and the bottom is mostly sand. The Mary Alice B, Regina, and the North Star were the wrecks. Also did a shore dive on the old Forrester dock in the afternoon. Bring a dive light. Photography will be tough and bring a good strobe. I grew up in Lexington and have done a good amount diving in the area. The wreck diving is excellent. I highly recommend diving the Regina or the Mary Alice B. There are also some other good wrecks but, they are deep and require some advanced diving skills. I denfinitely recommend a dry suit and a good dive light. Sanilac has a good dive shop and most charters depart from there. I also recommend going up to Alpena and diving Thunder Bay if you get the opportunity.

I will be headed to North Carolina that week. Going to dive with Olympus Dive Center and check out the U-352 and some of the other goodies out that way!

Do what I do: book the trip, then tell the boss. There's usually a minor uproar, but I get to dive.

Last year when we were planning it, we booked with Gary Venet. I never have dove with him, but got his info off the other board and he came highly recommended. He was great about everything when our trip spontaneously combusted as well.

I'd love to go but I blew most of my dive trip money for the year to dive w/ the Deep Sea Detectives in September.
