Naufins- Hows Sea Signs?

Becky-

I see you are instructing sea signs now. I know you first reported on receiving the brochure for Sea Signs, then becoming an IT. When you get time, could you do a mini-report on a) when you took the class yourself, how it helped your own u/w communication, and b) how it went when you taught the class.
(unless you already did this and I missed it).

I am really curious and think others may find it interesting.

Thanks for asking about Sea Signs.

I was able to do my IT class by webcam. It took about 18 hrs. It went real well, Suzanne (Pres. of Sea Signs) is great. I then took the final. I took the course in March of this year. This qualified me to be a Sea Sign Instructor Trainer - I can offer the Instructor's course to any "professional level" diver.

It is amazing how much easier communication is when diving. I went over a few signs with a Ranger class and they seemed to really enjoy them. My husband (a crusty old diver of 36 yrs wants to take it) - he think it will be a big help. As far as actually using Sea Signs I won't know until the end of July. We are going with a group to St Lucia and hope to teach it to some of those going. I will definately report back after that.

I am not an Instructor or Dive Con so I can not offer a c-card speciality, but I can teach a basic open water class and offer the Sea Sign tag (it attaches to your BC). For SSI a Dive Con can teach the OW class; for NAUI, PADI, YMCA and other agencies the Instructor needs to be at least an Assistant Instr.

The OW Instructor's class I taught last weekend (my 1st one) took about 2 1/2 hrs. I had 2 students. I was not able to get the forms and DVD to them before hand; if I had it might have gone quicker but it went really well anyway. The information as a lot of good reasons as to how and why the sign is done as it is. Sea Signs has about 120 signs/words.
