View Full Version : I have my work cut out for me

Well, we have had a website for our local dive club since October. It has said "Coming soon!" since then as well. People are busy as we all know. So guess what. I again couldn't leave well enough alone and am now a Webmaster!
Woo-Hoo!
Well, more like a Webmaster Candidate. I did a home page on AOL once, about 5 years ago. That is the extent of my web page knowledge.
So the guy that furnished us the site, set me up with MS Front Page and I am on my way. I am fairly competent with the computer, use AutoCAD extensively and am good with MS Office, so I know I'll pick this right up. In fact, I'm excited about it. I experimented a couple hours yesterday and got a real webpage loaded that says more than just "Coming Soon!" Then I began to work on "The Real Web Page(s)". It will be a challenge, but I guess at this point, I can set it up however I so desire, and after all this time, no one better say a word!
Wish me luck!

I'm lucky: I'm a network admin so I can allways find some HTML geek to do that stuff.

Julie,
Feel free to PM me if you have questions. Also (shameless plug) have you read about our club forum offer? http://www.midwestdive.com/forums/faq.php?faq=mwd#faq_club_forums

Thanks for the nice responses!
I will continue to work on it and fix things of course. For instance, I opened it at work today and noticed I don't have one of the same fonts here at the office so it looked a little funny.
Also, I'm going to get Adobe Elements to fix my pictures and graphics. Some of them are pretty ragged looking, but I don't have all the tools I need just yet.
This can end up turning into kind of an obsession, can't it?

Page looks good Juls. I have a couple of suggestions.
1. In the header/navigation bar, only the dive flags are links. I would make the text under them links as well (Club Info Newsletter Photo Album Local Diving Schedule) so you can click on the text or the dive flag.

2. Make sure you test your pages with multiple browsers. I recommend IE and Firefox at least. Firefox is much more strict about adherance to standards than IE is and you may find a few surprises.
3. Don't forget to add your page to our links section. You want as many links to your site as possible to improve your ranking on search engines. (And thanks for the link on your site as well.)

Yeah, or a job.
