I have no idea why I thought of this but does anyone else like to visit aquariums and, if so, where are some of your favorites and what makes them so. Mine so far (not counting Sea World which is on a plain of it's own IMO):

Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks: Great walk through shark tank even if it's all bulls. Good small exhibits and interactive tank for kids. Not something you'd expect to find in the middle of red dirt country.

South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston: Large variety of sharks and other large fish in the shark tank. Great fossils.

Main aquarium at Bass Pro in Springfield Mo. As impressive above water as below.

The one on the Riverwalk in New Orleans is ok.

Great idea for a thread! I really enjoy them also. Denver has a good one. The one I am wanting to see is Shed's Aquarium in Chicago. Hey Juls is it as great as I have heard?

Shed Aquariam really is terrific. And I still have a soft spot in my heart for the one I used to go to as a kid, New York City's at Coney Island. Checking out the fish and scarfing down a couple of Nathan's franks is as close to heaven as you can get.

I love aquariums. I can't wait to get back to Epcot and dive theirs. I actually tend to like smaller aquariums that are somewhat specialized. I'd say the two best things I've seen at an aquarium was the Pengiun exibit at Moody Gardens in Galveston and a temporary Sea Dragon exibit at the Tenesee Aquarium.

We just visited the Underwater Adventures aquarium at the Mall of America last month. It was really nice so we bought a family membership for the year. The kids all liked it (ages 5-12) and are excited about going back this summer. I thought it was nicer than the one in Las Vegas.

Aquarium in LV? Tell me more, I get down there at least once a year because I have family there but I had no idea there was an aquarium there.

They have a Shark Reef at Mandaly Bay which was very nice. They have a hammerhead shark there, I think since 2003. According to the web site, it hold 1.3 million gallons and is the size of a football field. Should go check it out.

If you don't mind forking out the $185...you can also sleep with the sharks....or at least in the tunnel under them. :-)
