Just a reminder that Midwest Scuba's Explore Midwest Diving is making its second stop of the year. This time as Dive Cerulean in Kentucky.

Our first visit of 2005 to the newly labeled Blue Water state is rapidly approaching. On 07 May 2005, we will be diving at Dive Cerulean outside of Cadiz, KY.

Dive Cerulean…

Dive Cerulean, like many midwestern dive sites, is a flooded quarry. Cerulean boast unusually good visibility for a shallow quarry thanks to its pool filtration system. As an added bonus of the system, the quarry does not have a thermocline and usually warms faster than most in the area. Underwater features are similar to other quarries, old boats and a car or two but for some reason Cerulean has perhaps the largest collection of underwater lawnmowers in the world. Cerulean als has a nice long compass course. To learn more about Cerulean visit their web site at http://www.divecerulean.com (http://www.divecerulean.com/). Be aware that the web site has experienced some ups and downs lately because the owners son is studying computer graphics and is currently working on improvements to the site.

Entrance fee for the quarry is $20.00 for the day and a site specific waiver, in addition to the Midwest Scuba waivers, is required. If you have not already done so, you will need to complete our Explore Midwest Diving waivers - available at the shop, or we will have some with us the day of the event.

Saturday 07 May 2005…

After you check in with the Dive Cerulean staff, check in with the Midwest Scuba staff. We will have an EZ-Up setup with a large Midwest Scuba banner. The EZ-Up should be setup by 8:00 AM. A site briefing will be provided at 10:00 AM at the Midwest Scuba EZ-Up. As with other Explore Midwest Diving events, each buddy team will be responsible for planning their own diving. Anyone without a buddy will have plenty of time and opportunity to find a buddy for the days diving.

For those interested, Dive Cerulean is open for night diving. Night diving at Cerulean can be a real treat because of the visibilty. If people are interested in night dives we will leave the EZ-Up in place. There will also be lanterns in the EZ-up to help setup/break down equipment. Interested will need to provide their own lights - one primary, one backup and a marker light or lightstick. Last time we were at Cerulean we had a nice little bon-fire after the last night dive so I look forward to the same this year.

Equipment Rentals…

As always, equipment rentals from Midwest Scuba will be discounted for this event. Rental of an entire SCUBA system will be available for $40.00 for the weekend (a discount of $20.00). For more information on what is included in that rental visit http://www.midwestscuba.net/rental.asp (http://www.midwestscuba.net/rental.asp). If you intend to rent equipment, please make your reservations early to guarantee availablilty.

Accomodations and Travel Arrangements...

We have blocked off ten rooms at the Super 8 motel in Cadiz. The nightly rate is $54.95 + tax, but they are waiving any extra person fees so even with three or four people in a room will still be $54.95 + tax. These rooms will be held until April 30th. When you make your reservation, tell them you are with Midwest Scuba's Explore Midwest Diving program. Other discounts, AAA and such may apply, but you will need to talk to Super 8 about that. Super 8 can be reached at 270.522.7007. There are also other hotels in Cadiz, visit Dive Cerulean's web site at http://www.divecerulean.com (http://www.divecerulean.com/) for more information.

If anyone is looking for either a roommate and/or someone to carpool with, please send the your information and I will forward it to the rest of the group.

Miscellaneous Stuff...

Trigg County Kentucky - where Dive Cerulean and Cadiz are located - is a dry county. No alcoholic beverages are available and alcoholic beverages are prohibited at Dive Cerulean.

And finally, if you think you are going to be able to make it please let me know and try to get your Midwest Scuba waivers as soon as possible.

Unfortunatly I'll be diving warm blue water in Mexico (I just can't help rubbing that in)...but smile...you'll be diving the only non-pool heated dive site that I am aware of...

I don't know exactly how regional it is but I had never heard of it until I moved to STL.

Washers is a game where you litterally throw washers into a box with a tube in it. Scoring is just like horeshoe. Hanven't found a decent game of horseshoe since I moved here.

You guys be sure to send a nice thought my way and hope that Audrey is being good on the plane while you're making those dives...

I usually just switch out my tanks during surface intervals, and then get back in.

Yeah at Cerulean you basicly need a shovel if you want to go deeper than 34 feet so you don't really need a SI, get your tank refilled, some H2O in ya and giant stride back into the Catfish pond. But a game of washers and good SI fun sounds great. It looks like the weather will be good all week which will warm things up and keep it clear.

The program is really setup not just to get people diving, but to get to know other divers, so that thay can dive more. Stuff like playing washers on SIs and happy hours afterwards allows people to get to know each other and talk, which is challenging to say the least underwater :)

Speaking of which, I look forward to meeting you on Saturday.

Dive Cerulean is one of those sites I don't have GPS information for. If anybody going has a GPS I'd sure appreciate some coordinates so I can get it on the map. If not, I have a GPS I can let one of the local borrow...

Atlaua -

I'll be happy to grab your coordinates for you.

The roll call on the calendar is a fantastic idea, it will help me a lot. On that note there are two things I wanted to say...

First a link to the user's profile from the roll call would be awesome.

Second, there are only two of us signed up to attend on the calendar. I don't want this to mislead anyone. I have a hard confirmation from 12 (not counting Trever from the Calendar roll call). I have a soft confirmation from another 5. A fairly good mix of staff and customers.

Not related to Cerulean, but have a good time in Mexico. Looking forward to your pictures.

I know a lot of those you are refering to are not on this site, but yea the calendar has a lot of great potential if we can get people to use it more :D.

Looks like Cerulean has some pretty good visibility. I'm working a rescue class the weekend after next and I had lunch with the Instructor today. Sounds like he's thinking about heading down to Cerulean for the class so I may get a visit soon...

I talked to Marty today, and he said Rescue class is at Rolla. He is wanting to take an OW class to Cerulean. That makes more sense. Not much time is spent underwater in Rescue.
