No one that I know wants to dive dry except for me. Did everyone else run into that when you started diving dry? Hard to dive when your buddies all want to wear wet suits only, and can't go below the thermocline in the heat of the summer. Anyway, once I get my wet suit, please keep me updated if you need a dive buddy, especially in Oronogo, that is just a little trip for me!

No, most everyone that I dive with dives dry during the winter months.
When I first got my drysuit, I figured I wouldn't need a thick 2-piece wetsuit anymore. However, I have found that during the summer months when the air temp is high, I still like to dive the wetsuit. Most of those dives, though, are just below the first thermocline with just a few minutes down in the coldest water.

The people I dive with think that diving in the winter is nuts! Anything that requires more than 3mm and they are out.

I like winter-time diving: no crowds and the water is usually clearer.

Kent we will have to get together when hubby and I get our dry suits. Oronogo is a day trip for us too - unheard of around here. But prefer to stay in Joplin for the weekend - nice get away.

BeckyAny idea what kind of suits you are getting yet? I am having such trouble trying to decide between all the pros and cons.

Yes! I was alone at first. I bought my first DS used from the only person I knew who owned one. But once my dive buddies saw how much fun I was having on the cool dives in Bull Shoals and the cold dives in Mermet, all nice and comfy, then step out of the suit and ready to go out for dinner, they took notice. Then when winter didn't slow me down any some of them started to buy their own. The DUI DOG Days events have been a boon, because it allows folks to find out how great diving dry is without spending hardly any money. Now I have a dozen buddies who dive dry.
Don't worry. If your current buddies don't find drysuits, you will find new buddies who already dive them. A trip or 2 to Mermet or Oronogo will get you some willing buddies fast. Apparently, a post here can do so as well.

Excellent suit! And a great value for the money. Probably the best bargain in dry suits. I have several buddies who dive the Nexus, and I borrowed one for my Ice Diving trip when my DUI was back at the factory having ZIP seals installed.

Good. I was originally looking at the NexGen but the little extras like suspenders and a pocket sent me towards Whites.

I've been diving a USIA shell for the last year and a half. I would say that it compares favorably to any other suit in the same price range. It's a brand you don't see too often, as most of their business is with the military.

Not really - I swore I would never dive Dry after watching the comedy of errors of those who were diving dry when I dove Valhalla. But after reading all the pros of dry and a weekend away connected to diving I thought DUI was a place to start.
Is there a way/company you are leaning?

Well, I have been leaning towards DUI TLS350. Of course I have been told by someone that doesn't carry them that the Bare NexGen Tech suit is just as good, but like stated before in this post, it doesn't have any extras that I would like to have. Also, I know I'm going to be diving as much as my funds will allow, so I want it to be convienient as possible. I have gotten a lot of good advice on what to get for add ons if I go with the TLS350. I see James is getting a Whites, and I haven't ever found them anywhere local, so maybe I will check them out as well.
Does Whites make custom suits as well? Anyone??
