View Full Version : Me and my Doubles

OKay, tonight I finally had my own doubles, my own wings. Things were good. I got in, and to my delight, when I emptied the BC, I was able to sink to the bottom. It wasnt a fast sink, so I am thinking I will have to play with some weight packed in behind the back plate for when the tanks get low. Anyway, went down to the deep end, and just tried to hover. I wasnt as steady as I am in my single tank back inflate BC, but I thought it was okay. I felt like the tanks were rocking back and forth on my back. Kind of strange, but I guess that is just one of the things I will have to learn to deal with, and get use to. I also worked on making sure I can reach both tanks valves, as well as the isolater. I could reach them all, but I need to work on my flexibility to make it a little easier, especailly in my left shoulder.
All in all, I think it went okay. I dont think I would be comfortable yet diving at Mermet in them this weekend. I think I want to get a little more shallow water work in before I go deep.

Are you using an actual backplate? I didn't get a good look at your rig in the dark but I was assuming you were using a soft system. If so, I think an actual plate: aluminum, steel, titanum or plastic will probably help with the rocking.

Similar thing with me with my DS class. In another thread I mentiond sizing my BP/Wing for dysuit diving. Before I got in I added about 3/4 inch to each shoulder strap. I got in and out easily with this and figured I was fine, but I found it to be a stretch to reach my exhaust valve with this config. Not enough to be trouble but I don't think I would want it any tighter.

Great plan. I wish more divers would get experience with new equipment before taking it out on that next big dive. When I switch from a BC to a BP I made a point of going to the pool to get used to it first.
