Hey everyone, glad to see that there's a site about inland diving. I'm going to be moving to Kansas this summer sometime and have thought about hitting Lake Wilson. I've been there to fish but nothing more. Does anyone know about diving there?

Welcome to the Board! Where in our wonderful land of dirt are you going to call your new home? I don't know much about Wilson, it is closer for us to go to Table Rock or Beaver Lake in SW MO and NW AR.

Unless you are going to be waaaaaaay out west in Kansas, there is a lot better diving in MO, AR, & OK. Welcome to the board.

I will be headed to either Salina or Wichita. Nothing set in stone as of yet. I'm not afraid of a road trip so it's not a big deal.

Well, hope you end up in Wichita, then you will be closer to some of the best diving around the Kansas area than if you end up in Salina. I at least know there are some dive shops, and a dive club in Wichita, nothing in Salina as far as I know. If you are given a choice, I would choose Wichita, from there, you can get to Blue Water Lake, Beaver Lake, Table Rock & Tenkiller. Some great diving, at least for this part of the country. If you end up in Salina, (Which, by the way, is NOT western Kansas, I came from Western Kansas) then you are looking at having to try Lake Wilson. It would be a lot closer than anything else. Although, there are no dive shops in the area, so you would have to take all gear and tanks (yes, plural, b/c no shop=no refill, although, I have no idea where in Salina you could even get a tank filled) Visibility is usually best in the spring and fall, and can get all the way up to 5', although chances are you will most likely see nothing better than 1' to 2'. Muddy bottom=muddy waters. I'll say a little prayer to the SCUBA gods that you end up in Wichita :)

Thanks for all the info. It's looking more and more like Wichita each day so it just might work out for the best. Sometime around August.
