For those who noticed, we experienced a short outage tonight. I read about a PHP security issue that required an update. While I was at it I figured, what the heck, I'll update mysql (the database that the site uses) as well. Usually this is just done with a single command and takes about 20 seconds.
Well, things didn't go as usual. The process failed. It took me over an hour to figure out why. The &#($#&$'s that created Mandrake Linux set the password for the account mysql runs under to expire after 60 days. All was fine until I tried to upgrade....
We should be back up and normal now. Sorry for the inconvience.
