I just signed up for both these classes. I am doing my book work right now for the Tec Deep. Wow, talk about puting it all together from previous classes.

On a side note, I got my doubles put together this weekend as well. If these darn allergies clear up in time, I will be in the pool with them Thursday night, and probably down at Meremt next weekend doing my first OW dives with them. I will most likely stay on the circuit for now though. If I stay the night, and dive Sunday too, if everything goes good on Saturday, I might go deep on Sunday. I will have to play that by ear.

When is your class? I had entertained the idea of doing the TDI Adv Nitrox when I'm in Akumal in May, if it's before then let me know what you get...

The actual class portion hasnt been set up yet. I picked up the book work, and want to read it a few times. A lot of this is new to me. I am hoping the actual class isnt until later in the summer anyway. I want to get at least 30 to 40 dives in with my doubles before I start doing these classes. I too will be ordering my dry suit, and want to get as many dives in as I can with that, as well.

Great plan! You want to have the doubles down cold before you start adding stage bottles and task loading to the equation. You will probably find the drysuit to be an easy addition when diving doubles--lots of negative weight to keep you underwater even with alot of air in the suit. Drysuit is a little trickier with small single tanks.

Good chance I'll be diving Mermet next weekend, too. Do you have any buddies lined up yet?

I know Chris Ellis will probably be down there doing some checkout dives with some dry suit students. I am sure little Kris, the guy I was at Table Rock with when we last dove together, will most likely be down there too, but you are always more than welcome to join us. It sure wouldnt hurt having someone there with experience with the doubles, in case I have any questions (and I am sure I will.) This is of course, assuming my head clears up in time.

I will answer any questions for the usual fee.

My plans aren't set yet for next weekend, depends on schedule of one of my dive buddies and on how much rain we get and how it affects the local cave diving conditions. Will let you know if I plan to be there.

And thanks for the invite to dive with you--may very well take you up on it.

God I hope not. I was told the DS dives were at Rolla. Mermet would make it hard for me to get back Sunday for my chamber ride.

I dont know if he has decided or not.

Mermet isnt that far away. Only about another hours drive. Nothing says you have to do it that weekend anyway. I dont think Charlie plans on doing his check out dives until he orders his own dry suit, and does his check out dives in that when it comes in.

4 - 1 = 3????

Anyway, now that I'm reading the book, I'm having a harder time deciding on a suit.

The expanding waist seems like more of a benefit than it first seemed. I bought my first BDC/Reg before I finished OW. I made a good decision because I researched a lot and bypased at least one step to my current config.

Now I've gone the oppsoite and waited until after my drysuit class to purchase, and I'm thinking I'm glad I did....

for me, it takes about an hour and a half to make it to Rolla, and I have made it to Meremt in 2 1/2.

Thats why I am doing DUI Dog days. I want to try out the suits I am thinking about buying first. See what which ones I like, and what accessories I like and dont like.

If you're headed toward tech diving, you will appreciate the telescoping waist when you go to do your valve shutdown drills. Unless, of course, you happen to be blessed with exceptional shoulder flexibility and don't need the extra material.

I definitly dont fit in that category. I was either told, or I read that the easiest way to do that is to undo the crotch strap, and go slightly head down.

"Easiest way" is a relative term. You'll need flexibility in addition to tricks like the above. Crotch strap shouldn't be so tight that you need to undo it, anyway, before going head down and shifting your rig toward your head. You have 60 seconds to complete the entire drill, so stopping to undo your waist strap to undo the crotch strap (and then you're REALLY unstable in the water) takes more time than you'll want to delay.

For now, just make sure you buy a drysuit that lets you move as far as you can move, and get used to diving your rig with the straps all slightly loose rather than feeling like you're firmly tied against the back plate.

It's a long road--that's why I applauded your plan to make many rec dives with doubles before starting the tech class.

Hey deepdiverbob,

I will be at Mermet this weekend helping a buddy work on some Cavern skills. I'm sure I can work in a dive or 2 with you as well to give you a tip or 2 on diving the doubles. Not that you need help, but a couple small tips can make a big difference in your comfort level.

See ya there,

Come diving with us. Yes, we'll be doing line drills, but we'll also be doing fun dives to practice the different kicks and trim and get used to some new gear. Will of course be doing a night dive just for fun as well. We plan to get there Saturday around 10 am and leave Sunday early afternoon. You can share a hotel room with us as well if you like.

Now that is very tempting. I will let you know for sure either late tonight, or tomorrow. I am going to be in the pool tonight, so I want to see how well my ears clear too, after these allergies have finally passed.

Okay, I wasnt going to do this, but after checking out the weather forecast for this weekend, I have to dive somewhere. I will be there. Do you have a spot reserved? I am going to try and get down there a little earlier than 10. I may try and get there at 8, and see if I know anyone else to get 1 dive in before you get there. Depends how I feel when I get up in the morning, and when I go to bed tonight. I am planning on staying the night as well. But I will play that by ear, and see how things go.

Fantastic! Glad you're coming. The weather does promise to be helpful--expecting clear sunny visibility and nice warm surface intervals.

I didn't reserve a spot, didn't expect it to be necessary. We'll look for you when we get there. Looking forward to a supper at Willy Jacks after an early night dive!

See ya in the morning,

I will try and get us a spot, just in case. With the nice weather, there might be a lot of people coming down at the last minute, who knows.

I may need the extra time before you get there just to put my stuff together. I will be bringing my tec book with me, just to make sure I dont put the long hose on the wrong side.

It goes on the outside. The breathing gas goes on the inside. ROFLMAO.

We'll have a good time. See ya there.

I love these old threads...lets me know what I was really thinking back then, plus its proof when I am helping the newer people along, this really is the way I did. This is cool. (Yes, slow day at work today.)
