My Vytec DS depth guage decided not to work the last time I had it out. The first suggestion was to swap out the battery to see if that helps. Well...that wasn't it... :(
I did some searching and found a few complaints about it, but not a lot and nothing that seemed to be recent. Is anyone else heard of issues with them?
I've had it for a couple years give or take a few months...it would really suck if it needs to be repaired because I'm headed to FL June 4th.

Well - here's the outcome.
Turns out I had it for three years and it was no longer covered under warranty...along with that, they can't repair it either so I'm thinking I'm just out of luck.
The dive shop sent it in anyway and they prorated a replacement computer for me ($325) and the new one arrived today. They don't make the Vytec DS anymore so it was replaced with a Vyper Air which seems to do everyting my DS did along with an elecronic compass, so....new toy to play with - I have to wonder how well the built in compass will work so it should be fun to mess with it. :)
I'll let you know how it works out...

I'll chime in with my 2 cents, please feel free to take it at face value.
I've never been a fan of Sunnto computers. The quality seems ok but IMHO they are so overly conservative as to be useless. I've had dives ended because one person on the group was going into deco on a Sunnto while I was at 2 bars of 5. Don't get me wrong, conservative is good, but there are limits.
I know they are never considered an "elite" computer but I've always loved my Oceanic. They are priced right and their customer service fedex'd a new computer to puerto Rico when I had a problem without even checking the warranty.

I was looking at the charts they are set with - they have a 60 foot dive for 50 minutes. If you chose to make use of the personal settings and go one step conservative it drops it to 38 minutes...way more conservative than needs to be in my opinion but then again I have never come close to hitting my ndl limits anyway.
They are the only computer I've used and I've been very happy with them (my wife is still using the original cobra that I started with over 5 years ago).
