Was out at Dive Stop today with a few OW students and a Peak Performance Buoyancy. Plus DMC and of course an Instructor.

Water temp is 60 F and vis is 10-20 ft. Didn't get deeper than 30 ft. because of the activities required. Enjoyed the mild temp and good vis, if only the air temp were a little higher the students would have also had a better time. Training platform has been made more stable, and the office/shop/classroom is quite nice now.

The constant improvement is great for Dive Stop. Saturday, my son and I were at the Science Center. I noticed Dive Stop is a sponsor of the current IMAX film. The name currently escapes me (and I am too lazy to look it up), however it obviously is about the ocean. I am aware that there are some naysayers out there, concerning Dive Stop. I support the efforts of Dave Cruz and the gang. That said, I would like to see a few more underwater attractions and some fish added to the quarry. The last trip out to Dive Stop I saw a lone Blue Gill and a few minnows near the dock. It does take a lot of time, money and hard work to meet the expectations of local divers. Especially when comparing Dive Stop to present day Mermet Springs. Which quarry would you rather dive, Quail Run in Rolla or Dive Stop in New Melle?

Good news for you, Blu. They released a bunch of baby spoonbill in the quarry this weekend! I didn't see any of them on my dives, but I did see plentiful bluegill and bass.

Six months ago I would have easily picked Quail Run as a fave over Dive Stop, only giving Dive Stop preference in terms of driving distance. But I am being swayed by the recent improvements to the property and the darn good visibility I have been experiencing there this Fall. And it is so nice to have a 30-minute drive time to do simple training dives.

That is good news. The reduced drive time is great, when diving at Dive Stop.
