I went out of Milwaukee today on a boat I have not been on before. It is a small 6 pack owned by Love's Park Scuba (near Rockford). We dove the Lumberman and the Dredge 906.
The Lumberman is a wreck that has been on my "to-do" list. It is an old wooden schooner that sank in 1893. It is pretty much intact. There are large openings throughout and swim-thrus can be done by divers of varying levels of experience. Its max depth is about 70 feet.
The Dredge 906 is a familiar wreck, but today, the visiblity was better than I have ever experienced. You could look around and see spools, the steam bucket, chains, etc without just stumbling across them. I would say a good 50ft vis.
The boat we went on is small, and there isn't a head on board. :(
Captain Dan is quite experienced at making everything flow smoothly though so we were able to get in and out without being in each others way too much. Also, the boat is fast and our travel times to the dive sites were short.
At the end of the trip, Captain Dan and his assistant Lori had gifts for each of us. They had taken individuals pictures of us getting out of the water and had them printed out with Loves Park Scuba, the date and the names of the wrecks we dove on them. Also we received nice logbook pages that had pictures and descriptions of the wrecks we dove (in plastic sleeves), as well as certificates and logbook stickers.
It was a great day!
