I have been to Haigh quite a few times, and usually stay at the Motel 6. However, that place keeps getting worse and worse every time I stay there. I have had 2 dive computers stolen from my room while we was out to dinner. I have found bottles of personal lube on top of the TV(Insert jokes here), bugs in the rooms and the service at the front desk down right rude. I am assisting with a shop trip in 2 weeks, and really dont want to recommend this place to any of our customers. Can anybody recommend any other place to stay?

There's the no-tell motel down the street from the quarry. You may find that it is worse than the Motel 6. Ken stays there when he's in town. He's had good luck with bikers and fertile neighbors at that place. There is a Comfort Inn just up main street close to highway 57. It looks clean from the street. There are also a couple camp grounds near by. The KOA would be the better of the two.

I've given up on the "no-name": that place is too seedy, even for me.

I've stayed at the 6 a few times this year with no problems, they probably have it in for Bob.
However, there was some damage over the winter, and part of the 2nd floor walkway is shored up with 2x4's.

Lees Inn is pretty decent. I stayed there once and would stay there again. They serve a nice breakfast in the morning.

I agree with TC_RAIN. My wife ane I generally stay at Lees Inn. The have a discount for Haigh Quarry. They include a buffet breakfast and the rooms are very nice. We stayed at the Motel 6 a couple of times, but the savings were lost with the breakfast.

Bob,

Wherever you decide on, let me know and we will try it there, too.
Lee's sounds doable.

I will be getting there sometime Friday evening, and diving all day Saturday. I cant make any promises for Sunday. Its a 4 + hour drive back, and I dont like paying the $20 quarry fee for 1 dive on Sunday, but we will see how it plays out.

wow...just went to book my room at Lees, and it is 90 bucks a night. And according to their web page, they dont even offer internet. Not sure I need anything quite that nice.

edit: I missed it the first time, they do have wireless.

wow..tried booking online, and it was coming up 90 bucks a night. I called them, and with the divers discount, it was 59.99. What a bargain. I have booked my room at Lees. Hopefully I will see a lot of you June 6 at Haigh.

Good recommendation on the hotel. This place is 1000 times better than the Motel 6.

Well, the weekend started of like any other local diving weekend, with a few hours in the truck. We arrived at Lee Inn, and was pleasantly surprised by the hotel, it was a real nice place to stay.

Saturday morning we got up, and headed over to Haigh Quarry. My buddy Mike had never been there, and we wasnt sure how many people would be joining us. So we set up at one of the last remaining picnic tables, and displayed our shop banner so our folks could find us. I gave Mike a mini site briefing, and decided it was time to get wet. We started getting gear together, when our shops Course Director Steve showed up. He said he had never been there either, so I again gave the mini tour, and then the three of us geared up.

The Plan was to go out to the Flamingo, and take compass headings out to the LARC, and then the truck, and gas allowing, maybe do a small tour on the shallow side. Somewhere past the Flamingo, I got a weird feeling that something wasnt right, and almost go a sense of virtego. I tried to shake it off, but it wouldnt let me go. I thumbed the dive about 10 minutes in, and we slowly ascended. On the surface, I tried to reason what might have happened, but couldnt come up with anything.I felt fine, so we decided to drop down on the Flamingo again, and just explore in that area, close to shore just to play it safe. I felt fine, and we proceeded over to the tube swim through, and the artifact park. After that, we crossed the road, and took the line over to the rock crucher. Steve signaled he was running low on air, so we headed back to the road, and exited with no further events.

Water temp was about 65 on the surface, 57 degrees around 18 feet and I was getting 50 on bottom at 50 foot. Vis was every bit of 30 feet, dropping to around 10 feet on the shallow side.

For dive 2, we had a student from the shop show up to work on his Wreck Diver specialty. Steve had driven in from Kentcucky that morning, so he wanted to take a nap in his truck. I accomanied Mike and the student on 2 dives exploring the Flamingo, and also practicing compass headings to the LARC and truck. Dive 3 was a lot like dive 2, with more exploration of the Flamingo.

We was thinking about night dives, but the weather forecast said it was suppose to turn nasty, so we decided against it, and instead, elected to go to Red Lobster for dinner.

Sunday morning, I awoke to some ear pain, and a sore throat. I decided I was going to skip diving today, and just hang out on shore. While Mike completed the class with his student, I walked over to the Halcyon set up, and was finally rewarded with the chance to meet Duane Johnson. We talked for a few minutes, and then listened to a very informative presentation about GUE, DIR and Halycon. AFter the presentation, it I noticed the class with Mike was over, so I shook hands and said good bye to Duane, and headed over to pack up and head home.

Sorry to hear about your ear troubles. The dive report was interesting- I know that place like the back of my hand, but it's kinda different to hear about it from someone else's perspective.
