I keep kicking around the idea of moving into technical diving or possibly cave diving. I know that I need to get more dives in before I go that route, so this summer I'm planning on getting as many local dives in as I can. Possibly picking up a drysuit towards the end of the summer and getting familiar with diving in that as well.
One class I would like to take this summer is the Rescue Diver class. So far, I've taken all my classes, other than my ow class, with either my wife or brother in law. It seems like things go more smoothly when you have a buddy in the class that you can talk with between the classes or even practice with before your dives. Is there anyone else planning on taking rescue diver this summer that lives in the St. Louis area? Can anyone suggest a specific instructor to try and take the class from? I'll probably try to take it some time in July since I have a few trips to go on in June (non diving unfortunately).

My wife is interested in taking rescue. She is also planning on taking the rectriox course. You should talk to her and see if she's be interested. I would have to recommend the instructor for our scuba club, Tom Leigh. He is independent. Not very into Tech style diving, but very patient, and the rescue class he teaches has a lot of in water time practicing skills. I can't speak for any of the other area instructors as I've never seen them teach a rescue class.

Sure, I'd be interested in the rescue class. Not sure when though. Things are sort of up in the air as I have been off work for my surgery so I will have to be flexible with the folks who covered for me so long.

I too would be interested in a class but scheduling is always a problem with me too... I tried looking into classes at ***** and everyone one of them I was already scheduled to work that weekend at least through Aug...

I'm happy to see a few people are interested in this. As I'm still searching for work right now, I can't really nail down a time frame for when I'd like to do this yet (hopefully that will change shortly). I'll probably bump this post up again in a few weeks to check with everyone to see if we can synch up our schedules to take the class at the same time.

Rescue Diver is an easy class to fit into your schedule if the shop/instructor is willing to work with you. If you approached a shop with ready-to-go group of 3 or more your scheduling needs should be able to be accommodated.
Once you have taken your EFR (or other qualifying CPR course) there is only a couple evenings of classroom work, a pool session or two, and then one long day in open water--and since there isn't much actual diving involved, a local hole such as Dive Stop or Rolla is more than adequate.

In my opinion, it isnt near as fun as it was before it got watered down a few years ago.

"You should have been here last week . . . there were whale sharks everywhere."
Don't spoil their fun, Bob. It can still be a great class.
