Eight of us from Nebraska dove Oronogo this weekend. It was my first time there, but our shop owner had been there several times. We swam down by the doors to the caverns, but vis was pretty low so we didn't hang out down there much. We saw the usual sights, including the airplane, the pile of cars, the training platforms, etc. I loved diving up into the air cave, although I kept my mask on so as not to smell the not-so-fresh air that others reported. Surface temp was 52 with 46 degrees at depth (90 feet was my max this trip). It was a fun trip and now I can say I've been there. I hadn't spent a whole lot of time in a drysuit so I got some great practice time in that, too. Two of our group were using the Aqualung 8/7 suit with the attached hood and front, horizontal zipper, and neither reported getting too cold.

We dressed up the gorilla a bit:

And we scoped out the computer workstation:

It was a really fun trip with a GREAT group of divers and I was glad to have the opportunity to go.

Glad you had fun. Oronogo is one of my favorites for deep dives. When vis is better the 4 Doors area is an excellent swim-through, including the chance to go up through the skylight exit coming out into open water in about 15 ft. depth.

I had been really looking forward to swimming up through that exit, but with the low vis, it didn't work out for this trip. Next time...

Bottom Dweller, sure hate that I had to work that weekend! Maybe next time you all come down I can make it to dive with you. Glad you had a great time! The vis has been down lately, but John and Regina are looking at a couple of ideas to clear things back up.

Cool - I'll post it on here when another trip south is on the schedule. Won't be any time soon, though. I'm at Bull Shoals in July, Oahe Reservoir in South Dakota in August, and hopefully Belize in January. Otherwise it'll be the local sandpits and pool with students, mostly. Sigh. Stupid full time job (not in the dive industry) and bills to pay.
