Depends on where the best dive op's are. :D
Seriously, I have only been there once, stayed north of Duck. But I was there to fish.

Well if you want to go a little further south I would suggest Discovery (http://www.discoverydiving.com/). I used to live about 10 min from there, but I was not into scuba at the time... I have never used them but have heard a TON of good things about them. I am pretty sure that B1gCountry has dove with them before. He is in a class the rest of this week and I think next so he will probably not be online...
If you want a bit different kind of fun, go all the way to the southern end of NC and go skydiving with Skydive Coastal Carolina (http://www.skydivecoastalcarolinas.com). I use to go there every weekend. One of the best places in the world to jump... GREAT view from up there....
EDIT - I cannot get Skydive Carolina Website to work but here is their info...

Isn't Morehead City considered to be "in" the OBX? They dive the U-352, etc. out of there. I dove with Olympus once. They were okay with 1 tech dive on the 2 tank trips. I had a good time. Unfortunately, you won't be able to see George do his infamous scooter toss entry anymore :-(

Morehead is not in the OBX... It does have one of the coolest names of any town though... I remember a tag line from one of the radio stations there that went "You Got To Love A Town Named MORE HEAD"... Now that I am into diving I need to move back there...

OK, what I need is someplace near beaches for the rest of the group, and near the dive op for me.
And please, no friggin jumping out of planes! :D

Well then I think that going to Morehead City would be a good call for you, well actually Atlantic Beach, which is kind of an Outter Banks Island but it is not considered part of the OBX. Then you are close to both Olympus in Morehead and Discovery in Beauford (Pronounced BOfurt in NC). Then the rest of the whole Fam Damily can hang out on the beach....
If you have any pretty young women in your group tell them to keep an eye out for the Marines... There is a base that is only about 20
min away. You always have to watch your women when there are Marines around....;)
