What is the date and where are they having it? My Shop isn't a PADI shop so we don't get that info.

I believe it is Sept 13. I will be at Mermet that weekend representing my shop at the Dive Rite tech tour.

Skull,

Let us know where you will be and your real name ;) We will try to meet up somewhere. That would be great! I'm really worried about what I might find combing the bottom of the lake. eeek!

Hey Laurie,

We will be staying at Table Rock Inn, where you are more than welcome to join us for breakfast Sat and/or Sun morning. I prefer to remain anonymous, but if you searched the conversations on this board you would find enough people addressing me as Bill that you might expect that to be my name. My friends who are rooming with me and sharing the boat might be going by the names of John & Peggy.

See ya on the bottom, and don't worry about what you might find--it's mostly beer cans, soda cans, beer bottles, empty bait cans, beer boxes, ball caps, beer collars, sunglasses, and an occasional wallet or anchor.

This was part of a Corp article in the Baxter Bulletin today. Will the Corp still allow the event to base out of there?

"
Lewis said the Corps knows plenty right now about "base failure" underneath asphalt and concrete structures in campgrounds. What Corps parks managers see spells out a costly and lengthy recovery effort, Lewis said.
The most recent evidence of major base failure came last week with the collapse of a concrete retaining wall around the public parking area at Moonshine Beach (http://www.baxterbulletin.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080813/NEWS01/808130313&referrer=FRONTPAGECAROUSEL#) and Recreation Area on Table Rock Lake. Lewis said the bases underneath all asphalt and concrete surfaces inundated for six months or longer will likely result in some damage to all those structures, including some that will require razing and reconstruction."

Don't think the Moonshine Beach has been opend yet this year and I bet it wont get opened. I will have to check, it does not look good though I was bye that area a week or so ago and it had not been touched. The water is just now getting down to a decan level. We are at 918.45 last time I checked several hours ago. If they open up Moonshine, that will be amazing.

I am pretty sure the beach was closed this weekend. Joan saw a sign as we drove by that indicated the boat ramp was open, but nothing else.

Seems the ramp would have base erosion, but since they are built for various water levels, maybe they have different design requirements. ???

So it dosent sound like project aware is going to happen this year. I talked to a gal at scuba sports yesterday and they said with thier move they are doing and a mess of other things they wont have time to put it on this year. :( So much for that idea.

If true it would be an awful shame! As of today, it is still featured on the front page of their website: www.scuba-sports.com (http://www.scuba-sports.com)

We plan to be diving that weekend anyway, and will bring some old Project AWARE bags and do what we can if there is no official event.

Looks like the lake is 1.5' from Power Pool. I think this makes it only about 3 or 4' higher than it has been for the last few years (which was a couple of feet less than Power Pool).

Hard to believe it is 8 to 10' lower than when we were there 3 weeks ago. I was at Norfork last week and dove the old Henderson Bridge. According to my computer download, the bridge is 20' deeper than the last time I dove it. (at 72' vs 52').

Plans changed, we will not be attending.
Friend with boat cancelled because of foul weather prediction.
Have no faith in new owners of Scuba Sports to put on an event worth attending, not anticipating boat dives being available.

Best wishes to those of you who do make the trip.

New owners? I hadn't heard Louis sold. Who are the new owners?

I won't be attending either. Local dive team is having a clean up on one of the local mud holes (can't see your computer below 8") Not as much fun as TR but hard to make the 900 mi round trip for a weekend.

Report--Project Aware, Table Rock Lake

We had a great day, no rain. There were approximately 60 divers, and 3 boats. Big Cedar donated 2 boats. The '08 T-shirts are great as well. We had a cool door prize give-away; they called your number and you took whatever you wanted off the pile ('course, it was best if your number got called early; as is not always the case in other scenarios). Lunch was catered by The Rib Crib and free air fills were provided as always.

As the skull had mentioned, finding trash is hard work in Table Rock, but going to the coves with boat docks is always productive.

I found a golf ball, a couple of pairs of sunglasses, 2 sets of kid's swimm goggles, and a neat battery powered something. I wanted to trade one diver for his boat ladder, but he said I was just 1 golf ball short--dang it.

But we all had a good time.

Glad to hear it went well, Charlie. Rib Crib, huh? I love their food.

We had splendid weather (Sat) at Mermet along with great vis. Woke up to such a violent storm this morning that we just bagged today and drove home early.

Thanks for helping to clean my favorite lake.

I would have traded that ladder if you really wanted it... I didn't dive today and instead spent the day with the kids doing things they wanted to do. They had a blast and as always thought they didn't have enough fun. They did help clean up a bit around the shore line though so they're starting out right.

The food by the way was pretty good IMO, it would have been excellent if it was hot though. Still, can't beat the price and I had fun.

I didn't really want it, just trying to be funny. I didn't dive either on Sunday. I was planning on doing something deep, but the high and dirty water at the entry point just looked like an accident waiting to happen. I came down to your room to see if you had any plans to dive, but you had already left. I'll just catch you next time.

Laurie and I had a great time down there. The viz was pretty bad on the lake though. Only about 3 feet max till you got down past 50 feet. Then it opened up to about 20 feet. Luckily a guy in our group had an extra light he let me use. We wernt having that good of a time till we droped down past 50. Food was good, I picked out a nice dive hood from the pile of stuff they were giving away. So all in all it was a pretty good weekend. But for saturday night when the storm blew in. It Knocked down alot of trees down there and killed power to alot of things.

I wasn't very impressed either, I wanted to do a deeper dive but it just didn't seem to be a great idea at the time, especially with a new diver whom I wouldn't take down that deep anyhow. I'm comfortable under those conditions but to be honest it's not fun unless you have a buddy you trust to be there at all times. I'm mentoring the one I had with me and she's starting to get comfortable, it's too bad she had to pick up diving when our vis has gone so far downhill compared to last year. Speaking of vis, I dropped by Bennett Springs to see how it fared and I've got to say that place is an absolute disaster. Parts of the park are closed do to flooding and you could almost walk across the water it's so thick with silt. I bet the clean up there on Nov 1 will be worse than what we saw at Table Rock.

We left early because we were going to ride the ducks with the kids and guess what, the winds were too high and the ducks weren't going out so getting an early start to the day didn't help. I noticed a lot of tree's down in Branson so the winds that night must have been stiffer than I thought it sounded. We went to the Military museum which our kids really enjoyed, then we did several geocaches with them and they had a great time. Still, they wanted to do more and didn't want to end the day, but within minutes of hitting their beds they were out like a light.

I had a good time even if all I did was pick up trash.

Yea we were watching the weather channel and they said the storm was only suppost to have 40 mph winds. Thoes winds were WAY over 40 mph. Alot of the flag poles that line shepard of the hills were blown over. And alot of trees down. I do hope the lake recovers by next year. its sad to see the lake in that shape.
