Well it started off a rough week at work and trying to get my regs serviced as well as get my tanks O2 cleaned and vis for this Sat dives. Than finally it was Sat morning loading up at my buddys Johns house we switch all the gear over to my truck for the drive to Milwaukee. We made it to Milwaukee at 12 were Duane (PPO2diver) and the Boat captain/ our dive Instructor Greg Such (Divebum), Matt (matt) along with 3 other divers that I have never meet. A mom and her daughter and another tech diver from Chicago that was budding up with Duane.
We made it to the wreck the mom and daughter was to go in first because there were going to do 2 rec dives. Greg and Matt got them ready and in the water in minutes. We suited up at gave Greg our dive plain.
120ft for 30mins with 30ean and 50 for our deco. our stops were
20-8 50*
30-1 50*
40-1 50*
50-1 50*
60-1 50*
70-3 gas switch from 30*
turn time was 18min or 2000psi
our total run time was 50 to the surface
The dive started out really hard because we had a strong current that made the swim really hard to the line, As we headed down the current did not stop. We made it down to the wreck at the midship line me and John made are way to the Stern of the wreck to check out the rail car and the water gate the was all smashed up. ( way cool) we then headed up the starboard side were we meet up with Duane. We joined up together and came up to the bow. At this time our time was came short so we turn for the return to the line. we should of had a swim to the midship but the current pulled us to the line in 5mins. When we made it back to the line we still had time left so we took one final look around.
As we started up the line every thing was going smooth. We came up to 75 and we started to get ready to do your switch, at 70 we switch over for me everything went smooth but when John switch over to his Deco bottle his long hose started to free flow. John tried to stop it by tunning the reg upside down and tapping it but it just got worse. John and I have been practicing valve drill for a year now and never had to do one for a non drill. John turned off the primary in 2sec. It took a couple of sec to calm down and start our deco. I timed and called deco
Now that I'm cert to do this diving I really like it. It makes the 2 hour dive not that bad since you get to visit the wreck and get a good look not like rec diving were you get teased and then leave.
I would have to say John and I followed our plain to the T for our first real deco dive.
