I am looking for a dive rescue team in my area to join. I am an ex-commercial diver and only work about half the year so i have lots of free time that needs to be filled. i live in SW Missouri in cedar county. that is about 1 hour North of Springfield Missouri. If anyone is in the area I would like to get hooked up with a local team. Any help would be appreciated.

Check with your local Fire Department and your local Law Enfocement. City of Springfield has there own through the FD. Most places use the MSWP for any diving operatioins. Remember once you start in the process of rescue or as I cal lit recovery you are haveing to go bye NFPA standards. There is not a group that has civilians on it tha tI am aware of in this area.

Even with your comercial background I doubt any of the groups will have you help due to insurance and not being in compliant with NFPA or any of the NIMS. It wold not hurt to ask.

Once it gets started wheather it is MSWP or a local juridictions it becomes a crime scene.

http://www.lsur.org/ This is the website for the Lees Summitt, MO uw rescue team. They all but wrote the book on rescue and recovery. They are probably to far north for you. They are an all-volunteer team and have been organized since 1966. Interesting info. They have a book out also.

Many of the "professional" dive teams are having difficulty filling their teams due to tax, oops I mean budget cuts. The National Park Service team here is critically short of members due to shrinking park staff. I may be wrong but I believe there is only one park ranger on the team, the rest are firemen and game wardens. At one time there were a couple of civillians on it. I help them with a few things but I am not a recovery diver.
Check with you local FD and police....they can probably use you.
