I worked an OW class this weekend. I have to admit, this was about as much fun as I have ever had working an OW class. The staff I worked with was awesome, and the students was all having a great time. This is what diving is all about.

Saturday was a beautiful day, got a little sun burn on SI. Surface temp is about 65, 15 foot was about 55 degrees, and vis around 3 foot. Not a type-o, 3 foot vis, and that was being kind. The highlight of the morning was watching the firetruck finally make its plunge into the drink, which can be seen here:

Day 2, we only had one dive to do, and the conditions was less than ideal. We had about 50 degrees topside, with a 40mph wind. The students all took it in stride, yes, a giant stride, and completed OW training dive number 4. Even with the wind, cooler water and bad conditions, I still had 3 students that wanted to go on a fun dive. So I took them on a tour to see the 727, box car and newly planted firetruck, which rests nicely between the box car and the ambulance. Vis did open up briefly under 30 foot to maybe 10 feet.

I usually travel down to Southern Illinois every September to see my mom and most times I try to make a trip to Mermet. If the lake conditions don't improve over the summer I will be skipping this years trip. Three feet of vis is not worth it.

The bad vis is due to all the rain we have been getting lately. Once that clears up, I am sure the vis will as well. i heard reports that below 50 foot, it opened up really good. However, since I was working the class, I didnt get to experience that.

Great video Bob.

Don't know when I'll make it down there, it will be less than I want due to the cost of gas.

He strapped a video camera into the front seat when they pushed it in. He wanted to ride it down, but Glen vetoed that request.
