My younger son will be 12 in August and we have a class at our local pool the first weekend of April that I plan to get him started with. Does anyone know what the restrictions are on a kid under 12?

Thanks -

No drinking, no driving, no voting...typically no reliable source of income...oh, I could go on, but you get the idea :-)

Search your agency. Things change so fast that you want to be current. Typically they will get a Jr. OW or Jr. AOW and restrictions are usually around 60' max. Also, they are restricted to diving with an instructor or a parent. I am not sure about DMs with no parent present.

The other side is what you (and the child) are comfortable with and what the outfits you dive with will let you do (regardless the written regulations). There are no real LAWS per se. The sport is mostly self monitoring and most of the restrictions are related more to insurance liability considerations. (Related to a matter of law.)
