I had my first oportunity to ice dive yesterday. It was incredible!!! There were 13 of us total (4 DM's and 9 OW's). It is amazing how clear the water is and how much sun makes it thru 24" of ice and 8-10" of snow. I thought that diving in a wet suit would be awful cold. I was down for 20 minutes and could have stayed down longer though. I hope to have some pictures in a few days, I'll post them if I can figure out how.

Sounds like fun. What was the water temp under the ice? I'm a wimp, I get cold in 56 deg water, but it takes about an hour...

Water temp was 38. The initial shock to my face took a little to get used to (numb!) but for the most part it wasn't uncomfortable at all. We did fill up our gloves and boots with warm water before the dive and the DM dumped some down my back just before I jumped it. It wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be.

Here's a couple of pictures of the folks I dove with. Most of the pictures I took didn't turn out all that great.

Interesting photos - even though it is really cold, I think I would like to try it - once anyway. :) Is Oronogo open the year around?

I'm not sure about Oronogo. I googled it and it is in Missouri....maybe one of the other folks would know.

That wasn't too bad either. The sun was out and oh, yeah.....we had a heated trailer to change in. Other wise it would have been a ******!
