Just got back from my shop's staff meeting. Looks like I might get a chance to tour a chamber and do a ride in April...Should be interesting...

You should really enjoy it. I was just able to get a lecture and dive earlier this month. The dive was great and the lecture was more interesting than I anticipated. It is wonderful how medicine has progressed. As a diver, I tend to associate the hyperbaric chamber with dive related problems, but its uses are so much broader than that.

Have fun!

Yes, I know they stay pretty booked up. Evidently they are used often just to provide oxygen at higher partial pressures to spead recovery in older individuals.

Sounds like an interesting idea. I may look into seeing if my Shop is interested in a "field trip" :) There is only one Chamber in KC area that I know of. I seems like I heard it is used mosting for burn victims here.

Thats what I had assumed too. I was wrong! Apparently the biggest thing they are used for (or at least the one I visited) is radiation necrosis for people with face & neck cancer. They are used for skin grafts and burn victims, but not as widely as I thought. What is the newest big use is treating wounds for diabetics.

There was quite a list of things, but I don't want to spoil it for others that plan to go. It was extremely interesting.
