Met one of my tech dive buddies for some deep deco dives this weekend. Along with a third guy we dived the old submerged Kimberling City bridge Saturday morning all the way to the bottom of the old river channel, and had some luck in recovering some gear I had dropped off the boat on a previous dive trip (2 years ago!) Also did a wreck dive on an old sunken houseboat a little shallower.
And this morning did a deep dive at the dam just to enjoy all the big trees down there--once again noticed some type of critters (termites??) infesting some of the old tree stumps down below recreational depths, saw a great many bluegill, a couple bass, and a freshwater jellyfish that I believe was dead. And a dead fish that had been stripped almost to the bone by some critter that left its carcass way down deep.
Anyway, current conditions are poor. I believe the lake is in the process of turning over, and visibility is very bad both in the shallow water and in the very deep water. It is only decent (8-15 ft.) at depths between 60 and 140 ft. Water temp is about 70 F at the surface, 54 F at the midrange depths between 40 ft. and 100 ft., and 46 F down at the bottom of the lake.
Got to hang out and have breakfast and dinner with a number of my regular buddies, including deepdiverbob, who were down there as well--Bob and his buddy were getting their Tech Trimix certs, and my other friends were getting their Tech Deep 1 certs. I've never seen so many sets of doubles and deco bottles at the dam before this morning! :)
