Does anybody know of a digital bottom timer out there besides the Uwatec (sold under a number of brand names including OMS). I don't like the fact that the battery is not user-replaceable.

I think Cap't Dale and I were just discussing this very subject this weekend. The only one that I could come up with was Liquidvision ($$$$$$$$), but I don't think they make just a BT anymore.

You could look at their computer - http://www.liquivision.ca/liquivisionx1.html

I think the alternative to the Uwatec is to buy a computer and run it in gauge mode.

I have a console mounted one with an SPG. Sounds like a plan.

Another good option if you want wrist-mount is the SUUNTO D3 if you just want a bottom timer, or the Mosquito if you want a dive computer that will go into gauge mode as soon as you take it past NDL. Both are rather inexpensive and user-replaceable batteries. Also, both are extremely easy to use and have a small profile.

The uwatec batteries last a really long time... and it is not a big expenses to send it to them, and they give you a new one. Other options were already mentioned, the Uwatec tec 2g is a good option also.

Anyone know if the new uwatec bottom timer has user changeable batteries. Key new features, avg depth and 3 digit time and depth to 999. They are supposed to be shipping in the US now. That is were I would put my money.

I've been trying to order one but, thus far, we keep hearing that they aren't shipping to the US yet. I also don't know about the battery issue but user changeable would run contrary to what Uwatec has been doing lately - they've been pretty heavy into the "batteries-for-life" thing and those batteries, though free and long-lasting, are not user changeable.

They are in stock at Alan's shop in TN, I'll call tomorrow. Anyone want a deal on my slightly used old style ones...

Some stores have them in stock now and I'll have mine in a few days. It is still the same 10 year battery based on 100 one hour dives per year. I just just on one of four I have and it was made in 96. For 70.00 they give you a new one if it dies. That is the "battery change fee".
4 are now for sale

Someone isn't wanting any charter business next year. I was hoping to reserve your boat a couple times next spring and maybe finish tech instructor courses, but with this attitude..... :p

Maybe that rebreather isn't letting you play with your OC friends.... :D

$70 every 4 years...ouch.
Watch the dive shops for computers that are being discontinued or they are carrying any more. I did this and ended up with a computer that does gauge mode rather than a bottom timer. Also a killer deal on a Cochran-16

10 years not 4.... is the rating and one of mine is now 11 years old and still going... And on top of all this I am not even a scuba pro deal, but just believe this is the simply the best value for a truly reliable device.
