Hi all,

We took a houseboat out of Kimberling City Saturday am and covered much of the area between the Kimberling City bridge and Jake's point. Water temps were 72 F at the surface, 64 F at 35 ft., and 50 F below 100 ft. Visibility was generally poor in the shallow water, but was 10-20 ft. once you got below 45 ft. depth, and was an excellent 20-30 ft. below 80 ft. We did some wreck dives, including penetration of a sunken houseboat with a reel (divers were wreck certified), did some deep dives, and caught some crawfish, and retrieved 2 lost anchors.

Monday am was planned as a dive on the submerged bridge at Kimberling City, but our boat's steering linkage broke just as we reached the bridge and we had to be towed back to the marina. http://www.ac-stl.com/scuba/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif

It was a very enjoyable weekend, with great weather, fantastic food, and good friends. Hope you all get a chance to dive Table Rock from a houseboat some day.

That sounds like a combination of Midwest diving and a liveaboard. Did you sleep on the boat at night as well?

Yes indeed. It was a deluxe houseboat. Very similar to a Blackbeards liveaboard in amenities and room. And the proprietor sent a chase boat out to us 3 times a day to pick up empty tanks and return full ones.

It was a blast.

My Shop uses those Housboats. In August the generator on the boat I was on was having troubles so mine didn't have AC - little on the warm side. They are a lot of fun - great for students and fun divers.

I can see it now- a Midwest Liveaboard charter to the Lost City of Oasis. Spend four days anchored on site for all the exploration diving you can do! That sounds like a Midwest dream diving vacation! We'll have Florida cavers and New Jersey wreckers driving all the way out here to dive it!

Seriously, I could see a few of us doing this. What other options do we have besides Table Rock? I know of Bull Shoals and that's about it.

Sure would like to find that ole town. I can take you all to the church and if you want to swim through it, you can. I will just walk through it. We will have to drive several miles on dry land to get there.

One day I hope to find all that they say is down there besides the old bridge piller and some foundations. Just wish the botom was not so deep in silt.

Maybe one day oafter the first of the year we could plan a dive weekend on the lake. I will make you all a deal on air if we get enough.

Lake Norfork has houseboats, too.

Sorry you missed out on the old Kimberling City Bridge! I have dove (dived?) it twice. A great dive and extremely interesting. According to my dive watch, the upper girders of the bridge were at 109 feet last summer. Make sure you ring the bell!

I have dived it several times. My description of it really had the others ready to go. It was suggested that we limp the boat into position and make the dive before calling for a tow, but I pointed out that it could be bad if one of our divers didn't make it back to the ascent line or had some other trouble and ended up adrift midwater with us having no control to be able to chase them down. They'll just have to wait for another trip. Circumstances prevented me from diving it on my first excursion to Kimberling City, as well.

That bridge will be there for some time. Ned to get the time and stay out of the caves and play on the bridge again I guess. Just can't bring myself to stay out if I have time.

We were down there in the water on Sept 29 and the surface temp was 78. in 2 weeks its droped to 72. We were planning on heading back down in a few weeks before the season was over. What Does the water temp range from twards the end of Oct?

It will depend on how cool of nights we get. Right now the colodst we have had is 49* and there is a chance that we might get to about high 30's* tonight and tomorow night.

From looking back to a log from last year it looks like about 65* on the surface and 60* at 60'
