Went diving on Saturday at the Atlantic Quarry in Atlantic, IA. Wkndbum was kind enough to show us the way and did a dive with us. While visibility was down due to rain the night before, it was an enjoyable day. We were able to back our SUV all the way down to the waters edge and put down our tarp. Didn't have to lug the rubbermaid containers, which is a big plus in my book!
We did two dives, stayed shallow as that's where all the fish were. The large boulders near the shore were interesting. We had a blast playing with the fish, they come right up to you and stare you right in the eye. They nipped at my reg, pulled on a lose string on my wetsuit, and followed us around. I definintely need to get a freshwater fish ID book. I know we saw lots of bluegill, striped bass, and I'm sure other kinds that I can't identify. We didn't come across any catfish, but I'm sure they're there.
Wkndbum, it was great meeting you! Hope we can dive together again sometime soon.

Where's the quarry? and what kind of viz did you have?
I've been wanting to get back to Atlantic just to eat at the Feed Lot. I worked in the area about 10 years ago and still haven't found a steak to measure up since. Decent viz would be enough of an excuse to get me back there.

I would estimate vis at 5-10 ft. According to some other divers, and Wkndbum, the vis was much lower than it normally is (15 ft. +). I'll have to check out the Feedlot Steakhouse, sounds good!
The quarry is located at Schildberg Construction, you drive through their property to reach it. There's a sign that says Schildberg Construction/Atlantic Quarry. I found a satellite image that shows the Atlantic Quarry: Satellite Image Map (http://www.usa-map.cn/Iowa/Atlantic/Satellite-Map.php) There's two other quarries right behind it that look like they might be diveable.

Hmmm, another site to jot down. sounds like the vis is comparable to what we normally have here, around 15'. Decent diving can be found if you take the time to look.
