I just signed up for a Blackbeard's cruise, for November. I am wondering if anyone here has ever been on one of these, and what you thought of the experience?

I went on one a couple years ago and loved it. I'm also signed up to go again this November. Are you going with us? (The Great American Diving Co.)

It is a wonderful chance to do much repetitive diving in remote sites around the Bahamas -- and for a budget price! You set up your gear once, and they refill your tank in place between dives. This is not a luxury cruise -- the bunks are small, the meals are simple, and the boat is a sail boat -- but the diving is great and it is a very relaxed atmosphere. And when the diving is done for the day, there is as much beer and rum punch as you can drink, if you're into that kind of thing.

In my opinion, live-a-boards are the only way to go. I have been on 2 so far, and I will be hard pressed to go back to a resort again. I have not done Blackbeards yet, however.

I agree a Liveboard is the only way to do a dive vacation I have done 3 - 2 Aggressors and 1 Dancer. I am getting to old or to spoiled for the Blackbeard's. I have heard it is a lot like camping.

Do you have to sleep in the bunks, or can you go up top and sleep on the deck, too?

Yes I did sign up with ***** for this trip. I am not too concerned about the onboard amenities, I am way more interested in the diving. So this sounds like the kind of trip I was looking for. From the sound of things The Skull and I may get a chance to dive together.

Certainly! There will be lots of opportunities to dive with various buddies. There will be lots of interesting dives.

Bob, I know you are allowed on deck at night. I don't see why one couldn't sleep there if he so wished. I prefer to be on something that at least resembles a bed when I can. I'm not a camper. Blackbeards is more like a houseboat trip than camping. In fact, the bunks are a little better and roomier than most houseboats I've dived from.
