I will be heading out to the big island of Hawaii on the Kona side.. Are there some spots that can be recommended for a beginner diver? I'm in the process now of obtaining my license but will only have about 5 open water dives before my trip.. Any advice?

Thanks!
Kimberly

The big island has some great diving. I did some boat diving with Jack's Diving Locker. The were great. Not cheap, but nothing in Hawaii is. The shore diving at the "Old airport" is good and pretty easy to get to. The shore dives at mile marker 4 were good, but tough to get in and out of due to the surf. Pu`uhonua o Honaunau (place of refuge) has a great shore dive but has limited access due to the lava shoreline. Local divers call it "2 step" because it there is a small cut in the lava that steps down twice for your entry and exit points. My wife and I did a night dive there and counted on the parking lot light as our "non-moving orientation point". The light did not move, but was on a timer. It was on when we went under, but off when we were trying to find the general location of "2 step". It is my opinion, that you should hire a dive guide if you want to do any local shore diving. This will help ensure that you have a safe & exciting trip. Have fun and be safe!! Ken

The place is perfect for diving activity. One of best diving sites best visited by tourists from other country like Spain (http://www.travelguidesdirectory.com/), london (http://london-travel.org) & perth (http://aboutperth.net) are Kauai & Lanai. kauai is known for pristine and rugged diving while Lanai are know for its best lava formations.
