:) Hi. I'm new to diving; I'm being pulled into it (willingly?) by my super-enthusiastic husband. I have spent the last 9 months getting over a fear of the swimming in water deeper than 4 1/2 feet to hopefully get certified this spring with my daughter, who is 11 (soon to be 12). I'm looking forward to learning more about this hobby for my family.

Welcome to the world of diving (soon to be). So glad to have another lady around. Any questions or concerns please ask. We have all been there.

Welcome to the board. Glad to hear you are doing better in the water. Have you done any snorkling yet?

Hi. I have done some snorkeling in the local pool.Winter will be around for a while yet, so that has been the extent of my experience. Our family (4 kids ages 11,9,8,and 4) to to the pool 3-4 times a week for a while, so we are all swimming now, even our 4 year old is doing pretty well. Lyle, my husband, bought a mask, snorkel, and fins for me so I could practice and I was able to snorkel down to the bottom of the pool and pick up a 4 lb weight.

I'm so glad to hear that. You are well ahead of the game. One of the biggest problems I've seen with people who are not comfortable in the water who want to learn to dive is breathing with your face in the water. I worked a class last year with a person who had never snorkled before and she got really worked up over breathing off the snorkle, never made into scuba gear that day. She went and practiced with the snorkle and did fine the next time around.
Best of luck with your class. Be sure to keep us informed on your progress!
