Have you dove this lake before? I'm really interested in going and, for once my schedule would allow it but I don't really want to drive 500 miles for 5' viz.

Thanks!

Yea, I've dove it several times.

The vis can range from 5' to 25' & change from day to day. It just depends which direction the wind is blowing & how hard (& it does blow hard up there) A couple years ago I had a good weekend with vis 15' to 20'. Told a couple guys how good it was & the next weekend we went back & the vis was 2' to 5' & didn't shoot anything. They don't believe a thing I tell them now!

The nice thing about up there is, no thermocline. The surface may be 80 & @ 90' it will still be 75+ degrees. Most of the fish are still above 40'

We're planning on going down - in a round about way.

We will make a loop up to Fergus Falls MN to meet some friends and head down to Montevideo to drop off our daughter with a pen pal that she visits each summer. With any luck we will be there before dark Friday night.

I just aquired a boat and will bring it along if it passes it's maiden voyage sometime this week. We had the lower end off today to check the water pump that turned out to be OK. Batteries are charged and it starts good so I don't forsee any problems. Hope to see you there -

If you don't want to pull the boat down, you can hop in with me. Only one other guy said he might go & he's not 100% committed.

I plan to dive Sat & one dive Sun am. Going to try to be on the road by noon Sun.

Bring tanks with you, no place to rent them but you can get fills on Sat night.

Any other ? about the area, give me a shout.

We might have to take you up on your offer. The maiden voyage didn't go so well - the steering jammed and wouldn't go straight. We'll have to take it apart and see whats wrong.

My boat should be up and running this weekend. I picked up a new steering system for it today. Once that is done I'll have some modifications to the trailer to accomidate some bigger tires, nothing major though. If your booked up tight we could probably make room for one, maybe two others.

BTW, what kind of spear gun do you use?

I've got a 24" & 36" AB Biller and a couple cheap aluminum guns. Mostly use the 24" Biller.

In the low vis, the short guns seem to work best.

I have an old Dacor rubber band gun with a three pronged spear that is around two feet long. I'm headed to the dive shop this afternoon to see if they have a rubber band that will fit it. Do you think something like this is adaquate or should I order up a new one?

Well......the fish were safe from me!

Weather Friday night messed up the viz a bit but we were able to find a spot with about 10' or so after looking for a while. It was our first expedition on a resovoir system like this and didn't know that 'finding' viz was a skill I would need. I only saw a few carp and wan't able to get off a clean shot.

It was nice to meet up with Terry and try something new. I hope to get to try again some day.
