Just came back from a week of diving at Table Rock. The annual family vacation of camping and diving. Great trip, wound up diving every day.
Arrived Sunday just after a huge rain. Sun came out as we arrived and was out while we set up camp. Kristin and I went over to the dam and did a 70 footer.
Monday there was a little more rain in the morning and I did a nice 100' dive at Poverty Point with A.J. (Kristin and Samantha dove together for a 40' dive.) The afternoon cleared up nice and we dove Duck Island. AJ and I went to 116 on the north side drop off. The girls again dove together at 35. Excellent day of diving.
Tuesday morning we slept in. It was a good morning to sleep as there was early rain which made for great sleeping. That afternoon we went to Zebulon Pike. I dove with Kristin. AJ paired up with a diver signed up on the dive boat. The vis was much reduced from 4 weeks prior when I dove it with SLIM. Probably down to about 20 ft. (from over 50 ft. previously) When we got back, I had an opportunity to help Paul at the docks with some work he was doing. (I am never sure how much help I am, but enjoy getting a taste of the work side of diving.)
Wednesday we dove with the shop boat. I hung around while Diver Dick had some new students and helped out a bit here and there and just observed how the teaching thing goes. SLIM was on the second dive boat and was working at installing the seats and tank racks. Later that day we rented a boat for the afternoon and the girls and I dove Spoonbill Bluff and did the southern part of the bluff to 70. Vis was pretty fair at depth 25-30. But, much less from 40 up. Then that night we went out with the shop on a night dive at Breezy Point. The girls dove together and tagged along with Mike and Burt. AJ and I went deep and at 120 AJ developed a free flow and that obviously interrupted the the dive. SLIM recovered two nice anchors that night. Beautiful weather.
Thursday we had a boat all day. We did a couple of dives. Sam and I dove the Zeb again and the vis was even less that a couple of days ago. All the rain must have been a factor. It was down to about 12 ft.
Friday was going to be a land day. We went into town and did the outlets, etc. Then that night I went out with Roger and Mike for a night dive at Oasis. They wanted to explore deep. I carried a stage on this dive. They both wore dry suits. I didn't bring mine as I didn't think I'd get a chance to use it. They froze me out. Note to self: next time bring dry suit. Still a pretty nice dive to 112.
Saturday was another day of boating and Kristin and I did one more dive on the north side of Spoonbill Bluff. I found a mint condition Hamm's Aluminum beer can.
So a great week at the lake. Got to see SLIM, Dick, AJ, Roger, Paul, Jack and Mike and so many others. Got in 11 nice dives. The nights were cool and perfect for sleeping. We ate at the Chateau, The Wooden Nickel (2x), had ice cream at Scoops and Breakfast at Table Rock Inn. Got to sit and have a drink with SLIM and with spent an evening on Roger's boat having a drink or two. And, I got a new regulator for father's day!
