Mr. Skull posted - " Yes, your post is a pretty good example of what we dislike about "shop politics". Care about divers? Then let us know what you are offering to divers rather than take shots at your competition."
Very valid comment. Thank you. I do appreciate your comments and opinion. I accept your challenge.
My question to Midwest Dive members is this - Are you interested in an open forum where I will answer any question and address any criticism? There are no sacred cows. Everything will be answered and I will challenge everyone to keep me honest.
By the way - I am reluctant to start posting "what I have to offer". This will probally lead to more contempt for me and LDS's. I could post until the cows come home, but really most of the members here know what LDS (or internet site) they are going to support or not support. I will proceed slowly and see if I can handle it. I think shop politics have no place here. I also don't like when some members offer (sell) classes on this forum. I worked for a shop here in the Chicago area and still instruct there and some of these people are competitors. As businesses, they need to get their own websites and sell from there. I have left "selling my store" at the door. I think the same should apply to all, but since I am in the minority on that, then I just get over it.
I think this board should be to discuss diving and promote it, but not to "sell" in such that the board is used to put money in our own pockets. That is what websites are for. Put a link to your website in your signature line if you wish and certainly share your expertise per your level of training.
Offering charters to get people diving is one thing, but if charters are your business, then use your own website. Same for instruction. Share your experience to help others, and feel free to respond if someone requests your services privately. But the blatant selling isn't really in the scope of what this board is about. Negativity to detract from someone's business, isn't either.
Can't we all just play nice???
Just my own opinion.

Well - Between Julie and Steve, I guess that covers it. I will try and not let my LDSness shine through as I am sure you will keep me in check. Thanks, Ken

Regarding the politics and the selling of classes and trips- I think it has the opposite effect- limiting or restricting classes/charter threads only acknowledges that the politics are here.
As a diver, I would want to know about trips and classes and any other offerings that divers would be interested in.
I can understand as a dive pro, there is a certain amount of competition between shops, instructors, and charters, but to limit "advertising" would be a disservice to divers.
Of course, it helps that all the "advertising" that I have seen here has been tasteful. I think that speaks well of our professional members and I hope it continues that way.

The only thing I like is when instructors have classes coming up and they have openings ( tech classes DIR and TDI for exe). non of them have the $$ listed so you have to call. No different that a pamphlet you get at the LDS. same thing with dive charters.
but thats my opinion. but who cares what I say.

Yes, but listening to differing opinions, and trying to be open to them, is what helps us grow as people.

No problem, it's my turn. Bill did it with such class that he's a hard act to follow. I promise not to piss, moan, or procrastinate, like someone I could mention.:p
BTW..I wasn't the one who resurrected this thread. I had to go back to the beginning to figure out what it was originally about. It may set a new record for going off-topic.

So what I gather is as a LDS owner/operator - You guys want me to buy the pizza. I am going to need help in organizing the 1st annual Y-kiki Divers "Dive for Pie" fund raiser event. Any ideas or suggestions??? This should get interesting

No, Ken, this is something that has been going on among a few of us for some time, before you came along.
But if you want to buy us all pizza, be my guest.
And before Bob starts in on me, I still intend to buy pizza!
