What a beautiful weekend at Mermet.
Started off with my friend Chris picking up his very own first set of doubles, ST95s, and puting them together with the assistance of the fine Mermet Staff.
My DUi suit still isnt back from DUI yet (I sent it in to get a pocket added, and they decided I needed a new zipper too.) I borrowed a Whites dry suit from Glen, just so I could get in the water. I brought a 7 mil, but prefered to dive dry. Funny how thing never work out as planned. Glen asked us if we would mind helping them out, and scrub down one of the training platforms, because they had a OW class about to start. No problem, be a good first dive for Chirs to get some weighting and buoyancy figured out. Well, Chris dropped one of the brushs off the dock. I thought he dropped down to get it, but when I got to the platform, he was already scrubbing with the other brush. No biggie, I dropped down and got it. As soon as I dropped below the platform, I knew I recognized the feeling of water running down my arm. This sucks. I got the brush, and we finshed cleaning the platform, and I called it a dive. My arm was froze, and I could feel water running down my side, too. After we got out, we found 2 pin holes in the wrist seal. No biggie. I would up diving the 7 mil for the rest of the weekend. The highlights of the dives was finding the second one man submarine at the bottom of the quarry. We accidentally found it on both of the enxt 2 dives. That was kind of cool.
This morning, we got there and agreed to hel pout with a little more scrubing. We went over and each took a side of the 727 on the inside, and prodeeced to make a major silt out. If I didnt see the brushes in out hands, I would have sworn Ken was in front of us. :D Anyway, after 2 passes inside the plane, we figured we had done all the damage we can do for now, and headed back to the dock. That was a good 60 minutes dive, and we decided it was a good weekend, and headed back home to enjoy the nice weather.
The plan was to work on my stage bottles, gas switching and both of us to work on valve shutdowns and since he is new to doubles, alt air use. But since I wasnt in my normal diving gear, I passed on the stages, and just focused on helping Chris get comfy.
Vis was a little cloudy for the first 40 feet, maybe 10 foot vis. Below 50 foot, it opened up pretty nice, I would say 20-25 foot. There is a thermo starting to devlelop, temp on the 15 foot platforms was already in the low 50s.
