Since everything else will be blown out for the forseeable future, I was wondering what Mine Lamotte conditions are like this time of year. I have never been there, but have heard that it is almost unaffected by weather. Is this true, and is anyone planning to dive it any time soon?

The vis has been down a little the last couple times I've been there. I would expect 10-20 but never any flow to worry about. I haven't dived it in about three weeks so I'm hoping for a little improvement. It will be 49-50* in the mine and about 40* in the small open water area.
Unless something unforeseen comes up, three of us will be diving Sat morning 9am. We usually make two dives and are back on the road by 2-3pm. Come join us. steve

What kind of dives do you have planned for this weekend?

One of my buds planning to be there is an intro diver. We'll be making some pretty tame dives. Dives will probably be about an hour each, but we're likely to swim between two entrances to limit penetration.

What does it cost to dive here? Could you let me know the max depth you have planned so that I could have an idea what the gas requirements will be? I have a couple of empty deco bottles that I could mix up between now and then if I will be needing them. Thanks Mike

The sign says 10 bucks, but he charges you 20. You do the math on that one, and let me know if you get it figured out. Max depth isnt very deep there at all. I've been there once, and I think max depth I ever hit there was 63 foot.

Yes, $20. Max 65' but that is only at a few spots, avg depth about 30. We always breath air at ML. We usually dive a stage bottle all the way down on the first dive and save most of the doubles for the second.

That sounds good. Unless something comes up I plan on seeing you there.

Despite challenging conditions, the ML dives are in the logbook. On this day the handiest piece of equipment turned out to be a 4-wheel drive. Uh, it rained. In addition, the expected 49-50 degree water temp turned out to be 45. Both dives were cut a little short due to the cold affecting everyone's hands. Vis was only about 15'. Still, I got to meet Mike B and three of us got in a couple of pretty good dives.

Yeah, you can ask Julie about 4-wheel-and-a-muffler drive. :D
Do you use drygloves or just go bare handed/fingerless glove?

We all just had wet gloves. The cut-out fingers got pretty cold on the first dive and were replaced with noncut-out fingers on the second.

We had some very good dives. Thanks again for the invite. Next time I will have some gloves without holes and maybe we can stay in the water a little longer. Until next time, Mike B.
