I gave into my desires Thurs and picked up a Ocean Master Equalizer purge mask. Working at a Dive Shop is worse for me than working at Dillards. New clothes, shoes, purses, nahhh - but new dive gear now we are talking. :D

The main reason I got this mask is for the strap "Q-strap". I love the quick release. Of course I can and will put this strap on my "old" Oceanic mask but this new mask is blue and matches my snorkle and wetsuit. Remember I didn't say that gear shouldn't being color-coordinated - just that I don't care about clothes. Jeans/shorts and a t-shirt/sweathshirt works just fine.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any "history" with this strap and if it lasted very long with the way it is tightened?

Is that one of the straps with a neoprene strap under a rubber and the adjustments in the back? If so I've seen them, but don't really have any experience with them.

I'm happy with my slap strap. It does the job, but those things look kinda neat.

If you have the March 05 Dive Training handy the mask I got is in the Dive shop area of the magazine (pg 92). I got the 2 lens model. I was going to try and post a photo of my mask and then found it in the magazine.

The main reason I got the mask was because of the strap. With Ranger classes you have your mask on and off a dozen of times. Easy on and off and saves the hair.

Ahh, well I keep my hair cropped short. About 1/2 inch on top and 1/4 inch on the sides/back. I did my OW referal in Cozumel. One of the DM's on that trip didn't use a strap at all. He held the mask on for the first couple of feet and then let pressure do the rest.

Ever since then I've kept my strap pretty loose. The strap is for the surface.

You'll proably find, working with the rangers, that it's best to keep your mask on as much as possible. You'll have to take it off to talk normally, but the more you take yours off, the more they'll take theirs off. And the more you'll have to help them defog :D.

Great advice.
