I am writing a comment on the Taum Sauk dam rebuilding report.

One of the points I want to make is that the water quality wasn't just good enough, as reflected by state classifications, but was truly unique to the point of attracting scuba divers.

Can you point me to any trip reports or underwater photos? Especially good would be statements on the clarity of the water, "as clear as the Florida Keys" or something like that.

Thank you in advance,

Dan

The water was crystal clear. Basin was only about 50 ft. across, so hard to say if the viz was better than 50 or not. Didn't take any pictures.

Park rangers were very unfriendly to divers, even with advance permission given to dive; ranger showed up as we were exiting and made us scale the rocky rapids to exit the water rather than just walk up the dirt hill--said he'd fine or jail us if we took the easy and safe way out of the pool. :(
