After hearing stories for the last couple of years and seeing some video and pictures I decided to go see for myself the Sturgeon in the wolf river. We dove just below the Dam in Shawano WI, 30-40 minutes west of Green Bay. The max depth was 20' and the water was a brisk 34 degrees. Visibility was less then 10'. We started off down the rocks into the river where the flow pushing you around can make it challenging to don your gear. Once we got everything on and cameras attach Chris, Doug and I headed to the bottom the started the search. Chris warned me to not forget my compass as the undercurrents are pretty funny. He was right, the was under tows heading towards the dam vs down the river. We immediately saw a few tails, but couldn't find the group. Then I had a few seconds to video a Tiger Musky that showed up, before he spooked and swam away as Doug approached. At this point I realized I could truly get closer to the fish on my RB. We turned about 120 degrees to continue on the search. It was almost 9 minutes into the dive when we settled down into a hole with no less the 20 Sturgeon stacked like sardines. Some are about a 1' in length while others were no less the 6'. I was able to settle right into a pile of them for photos and video. Unfortunately my camera was on auto focus for some reason:mad: and I didn't get much I am happy with. The below link is a picture of one with some size to get you an idea of these things. I was a little awed by the sight of them. And I put a few pictures on my web site for you to browse also. I recommend before the river freezes if you have the time to go make this dive.
